A SOUTH TEXAS TRADITION. The 2021 South Texas Landman & Lawyers Clays Shoot will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, March 26th,

2021, at the picturesque Joshua Creek Ranch in Boerne, Texas. This year’s event will benefit Puppies Behind Bars, located in New York, New York. Puppies Behind Bars is a unique program that trains prison inmates to raise service dogs for wounded war veterans and first responders, as well as explosive-detection canines for law enforcement. Joshua Creek Ranch is Texas’ only Beretta Trident rated lodge. With 12 stations set against the backdrop of the Texas Hill Country, the course is set to be novice-friendly, but includes a number of challenging stations to separate the great shooters from the good.

The Particulars - $150 per shooter entry fee. Entry fee includes breakfast, lunch and beverages following the shoot. Shells are not

included.- 80 targets, Modified Lewis Class Scoring System. Shooters will begin at pre-determined stations in groups of 10

persons per station beginning at 9:30 AM.

- 12/16/20/28 gauge welcome. Ammo & limited shotgun rental available from Pro Shop.

- Eye and ear protection is required for all shooters at Joshua Creek Ranch.- Raffle Prize Give-Away. Pre-sale tickets available for $15, day-of tickets available for $20. This year’s raffle will

feature outdoor gear and guns from some of South Texas’ best suppliers.

This year’s charity, Puppies Behind Bars (PBB), trains prison inmates to raise service dogs for wounded war veterans and first responders, as well as explosive-detection canines for law enforcement. Puppies enter prison at the age of 8 weeks and live with their inmate puppy-raisers for approximately 24 months. As the puppies mature into well-loved, well-behaved dogs, their raisers learn what it means to contribute to society rather than take from it.

Their goals are to train the best working dogs available, to keep the dogs happy and healthy, to train the inmate puppy raisers in our program to be skilled dog handlers, and to maintain a high “graduation” rate, with approximately 75% of their dogs going on to lead successful and productive working lives. (Dogs that do not graduate are released for adoption.)

PBB measures success both quantitatively and qualitatively. The longevity of our program is an indication of its health, and the large number of inmates participating, as well as the number of prisons where we work, are clear factors in assessing our progress. We also find an indication of our program’s effectiveness in the many PBB inmate puppy raisers who apprise us of their success finding jobs in dog training, grooming, and related fields after they are paroled.
