“The congregation paradigm describes most of North American religions and it’s failing. Why? Because it’s not prepared to cope with the quality of turmoil people are experiencing in their personal lives.”

Yet many things are in flux! DJ Patil explains, "There are sometimes when you can predict weather well for the next 15 days. Other times, you can only really forecast a couple of days. Sometimes you can't predict the next two hours." The business [and ministry] climate, it turns out, is a lot like the weather. We've entered a next two-hours era.

Use the Halverson Benediction for yourself and with the congregation and with its groups:

Wherever you go, God is sending you. Wherever you are God has a purpose in you being there. Christ who indwells you has something he wants to do through you where you are! Believe it and go in his grace and power. Richard C. Halverson

Change or Die - The Fast Company

All leadership comes down to this: changing people's behavior. Why is that so damn hard? Science offers some surprising new answers -- and ways to do better.

Change or Die? What if you were given that choice? For real. What if it weren't just the hyperbolic rhetoric that conflates corporate performance with life and death... We're talking actual life or death now. Your own life or death. What if a well-informed, trusted authority figure said you had to make difficult and enduring changes in the way you think and act? If you didn't, your time would end soon -- a lot sooner than it had to. Could you change when change really mattered? When it mattered most?

Page 82: 2.0 s1 3 29-14 canada

Yes, you say?Try again.Yes?You're probably deluding yourself. You wouldn't change.Don't believe it? You want odds? Here are the odds, the scientifically studied odds: nine to one. That's nine to one against you. How do you like those odds?

Page 83: 2.0 s1 3 29-14 canada

On the decline of Rome: “Everyone aimed at security: no one accepted responsibility. What was plainly lacking, long before the barbarian invasions had done their work, long before economic dislocations became serious, was an inner go. Rome’s life was now an imitation of life: a mere holding on. Security was the watchword — as if life knew any other stability than through constant change, or any form of security except through a constant willingness to take risks.”

The Condition of Man – Lewis Mumford
