2020 JBBA A.I. Program Bulls

JBBA: To promote youth outreach through friendly competition, education and leadership skills while raising, showing and promoting quality Beefmaster cattle for the future of the industry.

JBBA A.I. Program RulesRules for the A.I. program are as follows:

1. JBBA members may contact BBU members from March 1- May 1 and purchase semenon bulls nominated from BBU breeders at a cost of $15 per straw of semen.

2. BBU members (breeder of nominated bull) are allowed to limit the number of straws ofsemen a JBBA member is allowed to purchase on each bull.

3. If a breeder limits the number of straws of semen they are willing to sell to JBBAmembers on a particular bull, once that number of straws are sold, the breeder does nothave to sell any more semen to a JBBA member at a discounted price of $15/straw.

4. Enclosed is a list of nominated bulls by BBU members for the JBBA A.I Program.

5. Semen purchased through the JBBA A.I. program by junior members is intended for thesole use of the purchasing junior only. It is NOT intended to be transferred to JBBA orBBU members, including family.

6. BBU members are responsible for releasing semen to JBBA members once paymenthas been received and sending in an AI transfer certificate to the JBBA office.

7. JBBA members are responsible for all freight costs associated with semen.

8. Breeders will need to turn in an A.I. Certificate Form of Transfer to the BBU office byJune 1 for each bull that is nominated with each JBBA member’s information.

We encourage all JBBA members to contact the breeders that are offering discounted semen for sale on nominated bulls and visit with them about their

bull(s) performance, EPDs, calf crops, disposition, etc.

We appreciate the generous and loyal support of the BBU breeders that are participating in the JBBA A.I. Program.

Junior Beefmaster Breeders 2020 A.I. Program Bulls

Key For EPDsAccuracy ACC accuracy of an EPD increases as more performance information on an ani-

mal and its relatives becomes available.

Birth Weight BW expressed in pounds, a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Weaning Weight WW expressed in pounds, a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires

Yearling Weight YW expressed in pounds, a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Maternal Milk MILKa predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as ex-pressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other

words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mother-ing ability.

Total Maternal MWWTa prediction of the total contribution of a sire’s daughter to calf performance. This can be obtained by adding one-half of the sire’s WW EPD to his Milk

EPD.

Scrotal Circumference SC expressed in centimeters, a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability

for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.

Rib Fat FATexpressed in inches, a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at

the 12th rib (as measured between the12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Ribeye Area REA expressed in square inches, a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Intramuscular Fat MARBexpressed as a percentage (%), a predictor of the difference of a sire’s prog-eny for percent intramuscular fat in the ribeye muscle compared to progeny

of other sires.

Calving Ease CE based on the calving ease score and birth weight and can be used to evalu-ate how a sire will impact calving ease in heifers calving at two years of age.

Maternal Calving Ease MCE used to evaluate how a sire’s heifer offspring will calve at two years of age

without difficulty.

Terminal Index $T $T is a combination of WW, YW, REA and MARB EPDs.

Maternal Index $M the $ profit per cow exposed due to calf weaning weight accounting for costs associated with cow maintenance.
