East Coast Mall

East Coast Mall (ECM) is strategically located in the center of the Kuantan city center in Pahang. It is a modern family lifestyle mall and also part of Putra Square development, which comprises Zenith Hotel as well as Sultan Ahmad Shah International Convention Centre. It is also well known as a CapitaMalls Asia. It is a modern family lifestyle mall with an established mix of domestic and international retailers, from fashion, entertainment, arts & culture with local delicacies and international gourmets. East Coast Mall is anchored by Parkson and AEON Big hypermarket while other key tenants include GSC, Padini Concept Store, KFC, FOS, Brands Outlet, F.O.S Kids & Teens, Wah Chan Jewelry and East Coast Mall IT Centre. Besides, its also a one stop shopping and entertainment destination for the local patronage and tourists.

As refer to the purpose of this study, we are chosen two of the shop lot consists in this building which is Parkson and Boost. About the Solid Waste Management (SWM), the waste contractor responsible to the ECM is Alam Flora Sdn Bhd. Before Alam Flora was hired and take responsibilities to handle the waste produced. At first, ECM waste management will collect the waste from each of the shop lots and placed in one wastes collection area. After that Alam Flora will collect it from the dustbin provided in that area. There are three (3) large dustbin provided for waste collection outside the building. That area is in open air with lids. The time and schedule of waste collection are based on the capacity of the waste produced.

3.0METHOD OF COLLECTIONThe data collection for this study will give the result about solid waste management. There are several methods of collection. As we discussed and decided for this study the data collection method we used is survey questionnaire. The survey questionnaire is prepared under our lecturer supervised as our primary source data. The questions prepared include open-ended and closed-ended questions.The questionnaire provided is as the main method to get the result from East Coast Mall building. The targeted respondents are the workers in this building. As refer to the some briefing of the location, Parkson and Boost shop lot was randomly chosen to do the questionnaire interview. Firstly, we are introduced ourselves and explained the purpose of this study. After getting intention from respondents, we try the best to interview and explained everything needed as in questionnaire survey question prepared. This survey is taking time around fifteen (15) to thirty (30) minutes for each of the shop lots.The data collected from this survey were intended to investigate the type of waste generated and in other hand to identify the waste storage system. It is also to observe the solid waste management practiced in the ECM shop lot and also for this whole building. Besides, the answer and feedback from respondents will get some suggestion and recommendation on how to improve the waste management system in the ECMs building.Finally, the findings were discussed according to the research questions. All the data obtained from the survey questionnaire were analyzed using specific data analysis procedures.
