WhyAllCaloriesareNotAlike:TheHiddenPowerofBioactiveFoods

Peopleoftensaythattheformulaforweightlossissimple:aslongasyoutakeinfewercaloriesthanyouexpend,itdoesn’tmatterwhatkindoffoodsyoueat.Acalorieisacalorie,theysay.

Butthat’snotexactlytrue.

Somefoodshavewhat’sknownasametabolicadvantageandwillproducegreaterweightlossthanotherfoodsthathavetheexactsamenumberofcalories.

Firstofall,therearesomefoodsthatreducetheamountofenergy(calories)weabsorbfromwhatweeat.Studieshaveshown,forexample,thatdietarycalciumlowerstheabsorptionoffat,andhencecalories.
