What is a democracy?
• People choose their leaders.
• Everybody over 18 can vote.
• Choice of political groups or parties to vote for
What is a democracy?• Elected government only in power
for few years and then new elections.
• Everybody, including the government, must obey the laws.
• Freedoms, such as criticising the government or choosing a religious group are allowed.
No choice…
• In a Dictatorship, you don’t have a choice in who you vote for…
• Public can’t choose the leaders.
• If elections ‘allowed’ only one choice
What is a dictatorship?• Government uses force, fear and
military to stay in power for as long as they can.
• Government acts above the law - literally ‘get away with murder’.
• People are not allowed to criticise the government or worship the religion of their choice.
Democracy or Dictatorship?
You can only vote for one political party – that’s if you can vote at all.
Dictatorship
