Key Factors for AC/DC LED Drivers

Power Factor Lighting Power Supplies > 25W must have full

PFC.

Also <25W PFC needed to solve the problems

related to harmonic distortion in multi power

systems. ENERGY STAR Program Requirements for Solid State

Lighting Luminaries, Version 1.1: PF > 0.7 and > 0.9 respectively for Residential and Commercial.

Reliability For high lifetime and MTBF (key advantage of

LEDs), it is strongly recommended NOT using

electrolytic capacitors, especially input ones (high

voltage stress)

Retrofit lamp & bulb replacement 3-20W output power range solutions

Space constrains (lamp housing)

What is DMX 1/2

DMX = Digital MultipleX for remote control of advanced lighting system, including motorized lamps to set light intensity,

light color, lamp rotation

for Wired Communication systems (twisted pairs + RS485 as PHY) in Theatre Stage Lighting,

Exhibition Lighting…

82

Page 79: 2 STMicroelectronics LED Solutions

What is DMX 2/2

DMX512 uses asynchronous data transmission up to 250kBd/s (to dimmers, scanner,

motorized decoder).

Serial transmission and daisy chain configuration up to 512 nodes (so called DMX

universe) with max time 22ms (no delay visible)

The multiple receivers are connected to the DMX host in a daisy-chain manner and

every packet goes through every receiver.

Very simple protocol – only 8bit data one after another

STM32• Follows DMX512 2008 Standard as well as timing constraints

• Configuration of a single board mode as transmitter, receiver or standalone

• LED Intensity Control using a 120Hz PWM from 0% to 100%

• Connection to multiple receivers up to 512 to a single host controller

• False packets rejection, reset sequence timing checking

• Two on-board 3W LEDs and jumper option for driving external LEDs

Typical Applications:

stage lighting TheatersChoreographic lighting automatic light systems

Documentation:• UM1004 (user manual) DMX512 based LED lighting solution

• UM0792: Demonstration firmware for the DMX-512 communication protocol transmitter based on the

STM32F103Zx

• UM0791: Demonstration firmware for the DMX-512 communication protocol receiver based on the STM32F103Zx

• SW code (.hex) available with the board. The application source (IDE IAR Embedded Workbench) is available

only on request and it is covered by license agreement.

DALI overview 1/3

What is DALI ?

DALI = Digital Addressable Lighting Interface for remote control of lighting devices (dimming, automatic on/off switching…)

DALI advantages:

simple wiring: use standards electrical installation cables (no special communication cables), no special wiring topology

simple installation: cable polarity independency, light source addressing

digital host control – use low cost microcontrollers on light source side (minimize light source price)

DALI MEMBERS: ABB - ALTENBURGER ELECTRONIC - BAG - B.E.G. - BTICINO -CABA - CEAG - DELMATIC - DIAL - DYNALITE - ECKERLE - eldoLED - ELTAM EIN HASHOFET - ERC - ERCO - ETAP - EUTRAC - FIFTH - GEWISS - GITRONICA -GERARD LIGHTING - HADLER - HELVAR - HÜCO - INFRANET PARTNERS - INSTA - LIGHTOLIER - LUTRON - MACKWELL - ME ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS LTD. -NIKO - OSRAM - PHILIPS LIGHTING - SANDER - SCEMTEC - SIMMTRONIC -SPITTLER - SVEA - TCI - TRIDONIC - UNIVERSAL LIGHTING TECHNOLOGIES -VOSSLOH-SCHWABE - WAGO- XAL GmbH- ZUMTOBEL
