Distracted Driving -How many of you have:

• Used your cell phone while driving?

• Been a passenger in a car when the driver was using their phone?

• Come close to having an accident because you or another driver was distracted using a phone.

• Know someone who has been involved in a distracted driving accident?

The Stats:

11% of drivers talk on their phones at any given time

2,600 traffic deaths are caused each year by drivers using cell phones

570,000 accidents leading to minor and serious injuries are caused each year by cell phone distractions

Teen drivers are most distracted by…

1. Devices - and teen girls are 2x as likely to use a phone or other connected device when driving compared to teen guys.

2. Adjusting dials or controls in the car

3. Personal grooming

4. Eating or drinking



2 seconds matter

• If you’re going 65 mph, a 2 second glance to read a text, or dial a number means you’ve driven nearly 2/3rds of a football field without looking at the road

• If someone in the back seat covered your eyes for the same two seconds at the same speed you’d be hysterical over the insane risk they took

In both cases the risk is the same



What will it take for you to stop?

Try these tips: • Put your phone on silent when driving so you don’t hear it

• If you have to call or text, pull off the road at the next safe spot and stop

• If you think you’ll be tempted to answer your phone, put it in the trunk when driving
