!. PTCL ERP"SAP# Project

!.1. ERP So$utio%

PT'( )roup consists o" forward looking progressive set of organi&ation including

PT'(* +fone and +bank* Paknet.

SAP ERP ,E'' -./ was implemented in PT'( )roup ,PT'(* +fone and Paknet/ back

in 01 to deliver a comprehensive set of integrated* cross2functional business

processes. ith SAP ERP* PT'( )roup has gained di"erent bene3ts of improved

alignment of strategies and operations* improved productivity* reduced costs and

gains higher level of controls.

The system is widely used across the PT'( )roup covering the areas of 4inance*

5uman Resource 6anagement* 6aterials 6anagement* 7evelopment Projects and

8perations. PT'( and +fone are using the same system with single instance of

database and application. The third company Paknet in the System has become

dormant as there are no transactions recorded on its 'ompany 'ode ,9:/. The

individual companies in PT'( )roup are using the single system separately

identi3ed through company codes like PT'( ,99/* PT6( ,90/* Paknet ,9:/

and )P4 ,9;/ for development* $uality and production instance. )P4 ,9;/ has

been con3gured in the SAP to automate the )eneral Provident 4und of employees.

This is tightly integrated with the PT'( ,9;/ for the re$uired deductions and

contributions.

There are several business processes which are customi&ed separately from the

perspective of each company while others are commonly used. All the companies

are using the same standard processes in all module e!cept those has been

customi&ed speci3c to any company or for both. All the modules and sub2modules

are tightly integrated based upon the standard functionalities. The ERP system is

integrated with the backend systems ,'R6* <SS* 8SS* <illing* <espoke Applications

etc./ of all companies* with <anks* with third party systems* with Etisalat and other

systems as per the re$uirements.

'urrently the SAP E'' #ersion -. along with other SAP ERP solutions is

implemented in PT'( group and it is running on the same hardware that was

estimated in year 01. The operational bene3ts of the system and the successful

)o2(ive of major modules in all companies have resulted in a large volume of

transactional data. e are unable to achieve the re$uired results and e=ciency

from the system as 5ardware* 8perating system and E'' -. does not support the

current business re$uirements. SAP has also outdated some of the E'' -.

features and functions and has o"ered enhanced functionalities in the new

versions during last eight years.
