Barnes and Nobles Book Fair DAS PVO organized a book fair at Clearwater Barnes and Nobles on Wednesday, December 4th

Thanksgiving Break November 25-29 DAS will be closed the week of November 25-29 due to Thanksgiving break Students will return to school on Monday, December 2nd.

School Attendance Please be mindful of your student's school attendance. Continuous school attendance is a key to student

success. If your child develops habitual absence, it will affect academic performance dramatically. Family trips and vacations are unexcused absences. Please refer to the student-parent handbook page-8

Important – Please Notice All AR goals are now posted for grades 2-5. Please check your student's AR goal and encourage your

child to meet the goal. Students must be dropped off at the north campus by 7:55 pm sharp. We allow early drop off at 7:00

am The classes begin at 8:00 am sharp. Parents must sign in the student at the main office after 8:00 am.

Please remember that habitual tardiness may result in the removal of the student from after school clubs.

electromagnetic waves, specifically light waves and

sound waves. Students investigated the sounds that

straws of various lengths make. After break we will move on to studying forces and motion!

Computing — Mrs Bradbury

Welcome to Computing, 6th Grade have been practicing the use of ‘keypress’ commands , examples included space down, left down, right down etc.

The students have completed their end of chapter assessment project, where they have created interactive greeting cards, which demonstrate all the skills they have learned during the unit. The card includes a back-ground, moving sprites, text and at least one user interaction. Great work 6th Grade.

8th Grade have started to use Event Driven Pro-gramming this week.

We have learned about creating buttons, and asso-ciating these with events, so that when a button is clicked and event happens, for example when a button is clicked another screen is displayed.

The students have demonstrated their under-standing of this by creating a 4 screen interactive app, where they have used images, text, designed and created buttons, programmed events and add-ed sounds. Well done 8th grade, amazing work !!

swing! It should be very beneficial.

Students are supposed to be spending

at least 60 minutes per week on both

reading lessons AND math lessons.

Most students are getting more than

this. However, there are learning games

on the i-Ready program, and if I am not

careful, some students spend a little

time on them here and there. I typically

let the students work on the games for

the last 5-10 minutes, but that is it.

Sixth and Seventh Grade Math News from Ms. Chapin ([email protected])

This week in 7th grade math, the students finished learning about operations on integers, so they should know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers, as well as find the absolute value. The chapter 3 test will be Dec. 2, the monday after Thanksgiving break. The retake for students who haven’t yet passed the percents test will be Dec. 9, the following Monday.

This week in 6th grade math, the students finished learning the four basic operations with decimals: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. They practiced using estimation to increase their accuracy in place value and speed in dividing. They had their chapter 3 test on Friday. They will be starting multiplying and dividing fractions on Monday for chapter 4, so if students need to review making improper fractions, making equivalent fractions, and

adding and subtracting fractions (from 5th grade), Thanksgiving break would be a good time to do that.

THIS WEEK NEXT WEEK Honors English finished reading Frankenstein and took quizzes on the remaining chapters (three quizzes in total).

8B and 8C read chapters nine and ten and chapters eleven and twelve of Lord of the Flies. The classes took quizzes on the material.

7th Grade finished reading Fahrenheit 451 and had a quiz on chapter three on Monday.

Next week is Thanksgiving break so there is no school!

Honors English is assigned to read the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens over the break. They will not be tested over the text until Friday, December 6th though.

Students have received study packets for the class Spelling Bee, which will take place when we return from the break.

When we return from the break, Honors English will have an in-class essay on Frankenstein. 8B and 8C will discuss the major themes of Lord of the Flies and write analytically about the novel.

This week, students will be finishing their main idea paragraphs.

We will be beginning a unit on poetry. The students will have a list of 10 poetry vocabulary words that they will need to know for a quiz on Friday, 12/13. In addition to learning these words and examples of each, students will be focusing on strategies to help them prepare for assessments. They will be asked to study a couple of words per night and use flash cards to study. They should study each day for this.

Typically, we work on i-Ready on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During the rest of the week we work on a variety of activities with Poetry being the focus this week and next week. Students will read a variety of poems, and they are encouraged to bring in any of their favorites to share with the class!

Geometry: We completed Chapter 4 on triangle congruence with a test on Wednesday and reviewed

logical statements through the game Superfight to cooldown on Thursday.

Algebra I: We began work on Chapter 5 - Inequalities and brushed up on solving equations and

inequalities. Students were introduced to their pet care project due on 12/13.

Pre-Algebra: We began our new unit on Geometry that will span most of the rest of the quarter and

Q3. We learned about angle relationships across transversal and completed related activities.

Next Week:

Geometry: Students will begin practice on all the parts of a triangle in chapter 5. We’ll explore the

relationships between centers and lines in triangles.

Algebra I: We will construct compound inequalities and graph linear inequalities. We’ll complete

chapter 5 within the week and test soon after.

Pre-Algebra: Students will be introduced to geometric proofs and apply logical steps to find angles of

triangles and polygons. Our mid chapter quiz will be at the end of the week.

Parents and Students! You should have received your child’s progress report today! Make sure you

look over the results together and plan for the end of the quarter.

Our Annual Spelling Bee is on December 12 and will be broadcast throughout the school. Some

students in my 7A class have been preparing with weekly words before the start of math class in the

morning.
