An accompaniment to other works concerning Olive Custance, the chapbook offers two of her poems, excerpts from Olive Custance: Her Life and Work (1975) by Brocard Sewell and ‘Tinted and Tainted: The Sculptural Body in Olive Custance’s Poetry’ (2007) by Patricia Pulham, and an excerpt from André Gide’s Madeleine [Et Nunc Manet In Te] (1952). The pages, gentled flecked with blue, yellow, and scarlet ink, echo the plays of opalescence which we find in Custance’s poetry and Pulham’s essay. Counter to this dazzling display is Gide’s account of his wife Madeleine’s bitter burning of their correspondence, which sours the end of the chapbook.
