RESPECT - LEARNING - MATURITY - ACCEPTANCE
The Exeter Pride
From the Principal
Term four is always an extremely busy time in schools and
with only seven weeks remaining in the year, it has been
very positive to see how settled the school remains, as
these final weeks involve valuable learning time for all
students. Grade 10 students in particular, have been preparing for exams
which are conducted in a formal setting this week. These exams are
important as they provide students with the experience of what exam
conditions are like, as well as allowing them to produce work to go
towards their end of year grades.
Our transition program with our feeder schools of Beaconsfield and Exeter
Primary schools will continue this term and parents of Grade 6 students
will have the opportunity to attend an information evening later this term.
Our Grade 9 students will soon begin the process of nominating for the
2018 SLC positions. Grade 9 teachers organised a Leadership Day for all
students in the grade where they looked at the qualities and attributes of
leaders, as well as listening to guest speakers talk about their own
leadership journeys.
Many people will have noticed the new banners at the entrance to the
school which promote our Core values of Respect, Learning, Acceptance
and Maturity. Soon, we will also have a new sign down on the highway.
These look fantastic and reflect the pride we have in our school.
We recently had four young artists spend a day
at Bunnings, painting a storybook that is now on
display at the Invermay store. Mrs Pasfield, who
was with the group reported that many of the
staff from the store commented

on how well behaved and mature the students were.
We then received a phone call later that day from the
store manager to compliment our school for those students who represented us in such a positive manner.
Two other students who have shone academically, are
Ishtar Lintner and Kara Landsberg. Both girls recently
entered a creative writing competition and Ishtar gained
a Runner’s up award and Kara gained a Commended
award and their names will both be published in the
magazine called 40 Degrees South.
Staff, students and parents recently had the opportunity
to complete a School Satisfaction survey. Some of the
key findings were:
Students and parents believe teachers have high
expectations
Students feel safe here at Exeter High School
The school is constantly looking for ways to
improve
Students are encouraged to be responsible for
their own learning
Parents believe that they can talk to their child’s
teachers about any concerns
The school is well organised
Teachers support student learning to higher levels
Whilst celebrating these outstanding successes, we also
look at areas where we can continue to improve based
on the feedback from the survey results.
Teachers will soon commence writing end of year
reports and I would encourage all students to ensure
that they complete all classwork, homework and assignments to ensure they are awarded the best
possible grades in their end of year report. This is even
more important for Grade 10 students as the grades
they receive have an impact on the courses they are able
to enrol in for college in 2018.

Orders for the 2017 School Magazine are now being taken. Cost is $20.00.

Attention everyone –
important date for your
calendar!
We would like to cordially invite parents, family and friends along to our annual Arts Night on Wednesday 15th November. This year, our program is jam packed with a wide range of items showcasing talent from Dance, Drama, Media, Music, Photography and Visual Art. The evening is due to ‘kick off' at 6.30pm down in the Student Centre, and draw to a close at approximately 9:00pm. Entrance is by gold coin donation. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Important Information
The annual EHS Athletics Carnival will be held
on Wednesday 8th November and Thursday 9th
November at Windsor Park.
Students will be transported by bus to and from
the venue each day.
If students are making their own way to or
from Windsor Park, they are requested to
inform their H/G teacher prior to the carnival
days.
Students are to be dressed in their school
sports uniform (polo top, spray jacket or Gr 10
rugby top) and are encouraged to wear house
colours/tops underneath for ease of
identification when competing.
Students need to be ready to compete upon arrival to keep to the tight schedule. There will
not be time to get changed at Windsor Park
prior to the first round of events.
Students will participate in grade and gender
groups for all activities and in Division 1 or
Division 2 for field events (there will be a qualifying
distance/height for Division 1 to keep competitors
limited to 12-15 students). Distance track events
will be run as one group and sprint events will
have multiple heats as required.
Students who are hoping to achieve Track or Field
Champion will need to compete in Division 1
events for championship points to count.
There is not a lot of shade at the venue, so
students are reminded to wear appropriately
protective clothing, sunscreen and hats. It is vital
to stay hydrated and re-apply sunscreen
throughout the day. There will a barbecue and some drinks available
but do not rely on this as your only source of
food/drink for the two days.
The program of events can be found below, if
students wish to take a photo for their own
reference.
OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC
ACHIEVEMENT – YEAR 9
A huge congratulations to Catelyn Turner who
recently received feedback on her performance in
the Science Olympiad Exams which were conducted
in August this year. These exams are generally
targeted towards Year 10-12 students, however due
to Catelyn’s outstanding achievements in prior
academic competitions in the area of Science she
was encouraged to sit the Science Olympiad Exams.
These papers were not for the faint-hearted and
consisted of 4 two-hour exams in the areas of
Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Earth and
On Friday 20th October the annual Pierre de
Coubertin Academy Day was held at the Tasmanian
Institute of Sport at the Silverdome. All Year 10
students who met the participation and leadership
requirements of the award were eligible to submit an
artistic or literary piece along with details of their
involvement and promotion of sport within their
school and wider community.
This year’s recipient was Sarah Pennicott who
possesses and exhibits special qualities and attributes
consistent with the fundamental aims of the Olympic
movement.
The Olympic Creed reads: "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to
win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life
is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is
not to have conquered but to have fought well."
The creed and motto are meant to inspire the athletes to
embrace the Olympic spirit and perform to the best of their
abilities.
Sarah attended the Academy Day and was inspired by
past Olympians who shared their stories, learned about
the importance of the
media in promoting
your own sport and
had an opportunity to
perform some fitness
testing elements with
the sport physiologists
on site. It was a great
day for all of the Pierre
de Coubertin nominees
from all over the state. Congratulations Sarah!

Environmental Science over a two week period.
Much of the content would not have been addressed
until college level, yet Catelyn took it all in her stride
and gave it her best shot.
She performed incredibly well and achieved the
following results:
Chemistry – Participation
Biology – Credit
Physics – Credit
Earth & Environmental Science – Distinction
Congratulations Catelyn! We know that you will be
successful in whatever your future holds.
Mrs Robinson (Gifted & Talented Co-ordinator)
On Monday 23rd October, Grade 9
students embarked on an excursion to the
Launceston Tramway Museum, The UTAS
School of Architecture and Design, The UTAS
School of Visual and Performing Arts, City
Park & Airtime 360. The day started at the
Tramway museum where students visited a
WW1 exhibit and learnt about things such as;
life in Australia during the war, the weapons
used during the war, the medals for bravery
and other deeds that were awarded during the
war, injuries sustained by soldiers and many
other interesting statistics and facts.
After visiting the WW1 exhibit students either visited the UTAS School of Architecture and Design or the
School of Visual and Performing Arts where we learnt about the courses and opportunities available at each
campus. We were taken on a tour of the buildings and observed students working on their own projects.
Being able to see these facilities was a good experience and it gave some of our students ideas about possible
future pathways once they leave Exeter.
Once our time at the Museum and University
was up, we walked from Invermay to City
Park where we stopped for lunch. There was
a heated game of chess between Aaron and
Patrick on display, and once the game was
over we headed for Airtime 360. Students
were given the choice of Airtime or Laser Tag
and it was a good release of energy after a day
of listening at the Museum and University. We
would like to thank the grade leaders and
teachers for organising this excursion.
