Through our media opening we wanted to construct our character A as the victim; mainlythrough her positioning, the mise-en-scene, dialogue and her action of the task, she hasto play the role of a teenage girl who has been kidnapped and is scared for her life.Firstly her positioning, we decided to put her in a bare room to create a sense ofisolation, she is placed on the bed where she struggles to get free, this makes her lookextremely vulnerable and weak through the use of high angle shots and close ups, we

wanted to give the sense that she has almost given up and can predict her fait when shefalls on the bed. In addition to this the use of the Mise-en-scene was key in creating ourcharacter, we used a pale blue top the communicate that she is the protagonist and isweak. The rip on her top and the blood on her face (done through the makeup) indicatesthat she has already had already been physically hurt by the antagonist and has alreadybeen hurt. Moreover the amplified sounds of the robs on her hands rubbing together andthe tap on her mouth highlights her desperation and despair. Secondly is the lack ofdialogue we wanted to create tension through this as we didnt want to give to muchaway to the audience, however, the diegetic sounds of the sobbing and crying show howfrightened as she has no power in get herself free, it almost a cry for help, highlightingher hopelessness. Her actions were also key, the character had to really get into the roleto make it look convincing to the audience, we did is through her facial expression, showing all kinds of negative emotion, for example frightened, angry, and upset through

the use of tears, this really portrays her isolation. The social groups that we wanted toportray is teenage gril.

Comparison-The AccusedI would compare character A to the main character on The accused, wetook inspiration of this because we wanted to incorporate the vulnerabiliof the character through the mise-en-scene of her ripped clothing and thecuts and bruises on her face and body , we believed that this was very

effective as it looked realistic to the audience making them feel sympathfor her.

Her desperation and weakness is really highlighted through the begging screams for help , however we believed that this was to tense and we wato dial it down slightly, so instead rather than screaming we had our chaweeping and sopping for help. In addition to this we developed ours by iof the character escaping the situation we wanted to create a sense ofentrapment, as there's no escape, and completely isolated there is on onearound to help.

We wanted our character to look powerless and distressed which is alsowhat the accused had, Accused used many extreme close ups and highshots to highlight her weakness this is something that we wanted to do, bhowever using more shots like an aerial shot to communicate the area shis in, also using a few long duration shots to show he strong emotion. However we tried to develop this further by are character having moreripped clothing and a blooding nose.

Comparison-Wait Until DarkWhen researching are for are opening we wanted are character A toslightly similar to the main character in wait until dark, as she isportrayed as vulnerable, psychically and mentally weak ( mainly duher being blind), within this clip she clutches onto the bars showing

she has more less given up and cant do anymore, we really wanted tincorporate this in ours to show her despair when she falls on the beand sobs. In addition to this similarly the main character in wait untdark and ours both are wearing light clothing to highlight the fact ththey are the protagonist and are the innocent ones . We also wanted incorporate the tension built when she was looking for the phone wtherefore we used this when we tricked the audience into believing antagonist was heading upstairs.

Nevertheless we wanted to develop this through the use of a bigger rof shots, we felt as though wait until dark used to many long shots anshots, and noticeably didnt use enough close ups, we developed thisusing more closes ups to highlight the extreme emotion. We also chathe lighting, as wait until dark had extremely dark lighting, we thougthis would be less effective on ours and therefore used bright lightinorder to create shadowing and making the scene more suspenseful. However this opening was very effective to use ideas from.

    Character B- Antagonist

    7/8

The social group that we wanted to create for character B (the antagonist named Damion) wasin older middle class man, around 60-70 years of age), we wanted to portray his as normalhowever aspects of his are abnormal. The role we wanted are character to play was to actnormal however make conations of violent and aggressive behaviour ( this was constructed byusing the knife in the kitchen scene at the very end), we wanted the audience to be aware that

he could psychically harm someone if e wished, as he had the power to do so. In addition to thiswe wanted to create him as a very lonely indivudal that is an outcast to society and is very co-dependant on his pet dog, this gives of the sense that not all is quite right. We portrayed him asnormal through thee mise-en-scene of his clothing , as they are normal for an older man towear, however through the use of the planning on the desk (shown through a aerial pan shot ofthe desk) communicates that he is slightly odd in the fact that he choices to write split overand over again on a sheet of paper, which develops are psychological subgenre. Also the lack of

dialogue is also effective as it doesnt give to much away about the man character, they canonly interpret by his actions, and loo deeply into what he is doing.

Character B is first presented in the thriller opening of his stroking his dog, highlight his caringnature. However this is a complete contrast as he has a girl tied up upstairs. We wanted toportay the character as being a clever individual that pays close attention to everything whenplanning his murders, and being extremely confident that he wont get caught.

Lovely bonesThe lovely bones is extremely similar to our opening, and it has avery similar plot. The social group of the lovely bones is alsoidentical as it communicates an older man in between in his 60s

we used this as an inspiration to our media final product, as we likthe way the man was portrayed, we was communicated as a normindividual that lived in a happy neighbourhood in a normal househowever this was all a front and then was shown as a sneaky manwas really odd and creepy and enjoyed inflicting pain on others. Walso liked how he was really clever about things, by paying closedetail to things, they were planned and tested and managed to cov

his tracks after he committed the murder, again we wanted toincorporate this in ours. However as a group we wanted to develop this, we didnt like howaudience was fully aware of what the man had done and was capaof, rather we used small hints to suggest that character B was theantagonist, and not give to much away at the beginning of our opeIn addition to this
