FEATURES AND TECH

Cabrio Design Ski boot design architecture that that incorporates 3 structural elements - (1) lower shell, (2) upper cuff and, (3) external shell tongue

1- Cabrio Design permits the use of stiffer and more rigid plastics in the lower shell. This strengthens the support around the foot and lower leg providing quick response and precise transfer of power to the ski edges. This design also prevents the lower shell from distorting and bulging as the boot flexes, making the boot more smooth and stable at high speeds and on irregular terrain. 2- Unlike traditional designs, the rear cuff never bottoms out. It pivots forward with your calf for less shell distortion, no shin pain and more con-trol 3- Smooth and progressive forward flex is pre-cisely controlled using an external shell tongue. Changing dynamic flex and performance is con-trolled by simply changing tongue material Only Cabrio Design ski boots feature such rigid and precise lateral support while at the same time providing a smooth and progressive flex. Cabrio Design technology also has a greater degree of fitting versatility than traditional ski boots. Cabrio Design is able to adapt to a wider variety of feet shapes and instep heights than conventional ski boots due the “open throat” lower shell/shell tongue construction.

Overlap Design 2 Piece overlap ski boots incorporate two structural elements (1) lower shell (2) upper cuff

1- a lower shell with over lapping and under lapping flanges that “wrap” to adapt to different volume feet and feet shapes securing the lower foot inside the ski boot, 2- An upper cuff with over and under lapping flanges which, when closed, secure the lower leg and ankle inside the ski boot. The “overlapping” function of the 2 piece design allows the over and under lapping flanges of the shell and cuff to slide across one another when the buckles are tightened, thereby adapting the volume of the shell and cuff to the individual skier’s foot and lower leg. Dynamic function in these designs is regulated by changing structural design elements (cuff and shell angle, cuff height, height of lower shell sidewalls, plastic stiffness, inner boot designs and constructions.

Page 19: 2 feet brand bible

Contour 4 The anatomical contours of the inside boot-shell and the inner boot lasts are perfectly mated to precisely map the shape of the typical high performance skier’s foot. A little extra “space” is moulded into the inside of the boot shell at 4 critical fit points: ankle, heel, 5th metatarsal, & navicular. Out of the box, Contour 4 Fit Technology delivers all the comfort, precision, and control of a close fitting, low volume, high performance ski boot that has been “punched” and “stretched” by a custom boot fitter.......with minimal need for “punching” or “stretching”.

Dynalink The Dynalink cable is fixed to the lower shell at, or near, the inside (medial) cuff hinge. The Dynalink closure buckle, on the lateral side, is attached to the lower shell (instead of cuff). Both closure band and buckle are fixed in posi-tion on the lower shell. When the Dynalink assembly is closed neither Component is permitted to move, either forward or up and down with the boot cuff as the boot is flexed. The foot is, therefore, securely held in position and cannot lift or slide during skiing. This assembly also prevents the boot from bulging and distorting during skiing.

Centre Balanced Stance Today’s modern rockered skis and lateral skiing technique require a much more upright and neutral (flatter) stance. Once only offered to racers, Dalbello is the first company to deliver this performance enhancing technology to the masses. Centre Balanced Stance allows skiers of all types to take full advantage of their equip-ment by centring their body mass over the sweet spot of their skis for more power and con-trol with less effort.

Low Cuff Hinge Low hinging cuff follows natural movement of the leg throughout flex, delivering more power and leverage directly to the ski.

Adjustable Forward Lean 3 total positions possible - No wedge, Small wedge or Medium wedge for varying angles of attack

Page 20: 2 feet brand bible

Heel Inclinator The Panterra and Kyra models feature an adjustable heel height mechanism. Raising or lowering the heel inside the boot can improve rear foot and ankle comfort for some skiers. Changing foot angle also changes fore/aft balance which can improve ski response and turn initiation for some skiers.

Ski Hike Mechanism Thin, lightweight, and compact. The advanced Function “Hike/Ski” control combines extended range of hiking/walking motion (Hike-mode), with solid, sensitive, and powerful ski control (SKI mode). Feature enhanced with 2 Position Flex control.

Walking Soles Bi-Injection P.U toes/heels + Rubber Arch Clad (select models) provides durability, stability and traction while walking & climbing.

Split Fit Tongue The Kinetic response tongue is articulated to aid entry and exit into and from the boot, found on all Panterra and Kyra models

V.V.F (variable volume fit) SYSTEM Developed to permit skiers to regulate overall boot width from 100 – 102mm when closure tension on the toe buckle is increased or decreased. “Set it and forget it” The boot has been designed that once the VVT has been set the boot can be put on and taken off using the remaining 3 buckles.

Page 21: 2 feet brand bible

Ladies Fit Features

Lower Contour Profile Cuff Dalbello women’s model inner boot cuffs and rear spoilers are 0.5 cm - 1.5 cm (depending on model) lower that men’s cuffs. Low contour profile geometry cuffs are engineered to close comfortably and easily around a wide variety of women’s lower leg shapes and sizes.

Personalisation Dalbello women’s models feature a combination of adjustments for fit and performance personalization: forward flex control, forward lean control, boot height adjustment, cuff volume circumference, walk/ski control, canting, fore/aft balance, heel lift, and heel hold.

3D Power Frame Architecture Tri-Injection technology molecularly bonds 3 different density polymers into one structure.

Top Frame Soft Entry Panels: softer density plastic material over instep for entry & exit.

Mid Frame Shell: precisely calibrated shell wall dimensions wrap & adapt to the foot contours

Power Frame Sole: rigid, high density outsole provides powerful and high sensory energy

Bio-Stride Tongue External shell tongue which is constructed from resilient and responsive polyamide nylon plastic. Bio-Stride is a patented two-piece hinging tongue assembly that permits the tongue to follow the movement of the leg throughout its glide/stride/walking range of motion, either forwards or backwards. When the WALK mechanism is open, the tongue hinges backwards to enhance walkability and gliding, by facilitating a longer fore/aft range of cuff movement. When flexed forward, the two tongue pieces lock together to function as a solid, one-piece tongue. A new, second hinge point - above the instep – extends flex range and facilitates

Page 22: 2 feet brand bible

Low Hinging Cuff + Twin Axle Ski Walk Mechanism SHERPA models feature a high leverage cuff assembly with hinge points mounted approximately 10 cm lower than standard construction AT boot designs. The LOW HINGING CUFF permits the boot cuff to more easily follow the natural movement of the skier’s legs because it has a longer range of forward and rearward hinging motion. The Twin Axle Walk/Ski Mechanism compliments the movement range by incorporating two sets of hinges: one hinge for forward flex, and a separate hinge to extend the rearward range of movement.

AT Norm Sole w/Vibram + Alloy Tech Inserts Rockered geometry, lugged Vibram® rubber outsole facilitates walking, climbing, and high traction utility for off-piste functionality. All SHERPA models may be used with ISO 9523 Alpine Touring Norm bindings; SHERPA models featuring Alloy Tech Inserts may be used with tech insert compatible AT bindings. SHERPA models are not designed for use with Alpine DIN Norm ski bindings.

RDP Hyperband Free Flex Cuff Wide wrapping profile cuff & spoiler system provide snug boot top closure with no shin bang. Outstanding support that is quick and precise for the most versatile fit.

Slap Ratchet Closure Crank the slap ratchet buckle for all the control and support needed for extreme big mountain riding. Lighter tension on the buckle permits a greater range of flexing motion and leg articulation for park jibs & jumps.

Page 23: 2 feet brand bible

MTP - Medial Power Transmission 1) Nearly vertical medial shell walls position the foot closer to the inside edge 2) Increased thickness in medial shell & cuff walls for rigidity and power transfer with minimum distortion 3) Thinner lateral shell walls deliver subtle lateral shell flex for smoother uphill ski transition and contact. 4) Quicker edge transitions 5) improved synchronized ski tracking

TWO They’ve come from the park and the piste — to conquer the backcountry. An ever-larger circle of skiers has discovered the joys of glid-ing through deep off-piste powder. These skiers need a ski that they can rely upon at all times and in all situations, regardless of whether they like to drift or conjure up high-speed turns in the snow. It also has to be extremely easy to ride, yet be able to stand up to extreme stress. ONE The One embodies the same concept as the Two, yet its smaller width makes it more agile and compatible with a broader target audience. The full rocker design of One and Two allow super relaxed, controlled turn initiation. The wide range of lengths makes it ideal as a unisex ski.

VÖLKL TECHNOLOGY V-WERKS (less is more) A Metal-Tex Hybrid construction featuring a combination of Titanal fused with carbon fibre A Motion iPT ‘Hollow-Tech‘ binding interface area - created to deliver the ultimate power transmission and light weight.

An Xtra-Light Wood Core that features new materials for light weight and resilience. Revolutionarily thin construction all made possible again through the sophisticated full carbon wrap. The increased performance is in direct proportion to the reduction of the ski.

UVO 360o Vibration Control Benefits: · Improved Control · Quieter ride · Reduced exertion

UVO (Ultimate Vibration Object) is the first application of a free-floating, 360 degree vibration absorption technology which utilizes the same underlying principles as a vibration damper. The strategically positioned floating mass reacts to vibrations and counteracts them by moving in the opposite direction of the vibration, thus reducing the impact of the vibrations to the ski.

The UVO technology has its own completely free-floating mass. This differs from other damping systems in skis which are attached to the ski at a fixed point and thus functioned solely along the Z axis (along the direction of travel and ski’s length). 1: Movement of the shovel 2: Movement of the Shovel 3: Movement of the Shovel Up & Down Side to Side Twisting & Rotating

01_BIO-LOGIC FLEX The ski's flex has been adjusted to the special characteristics of BIO-LOGIC GEOMETRY and STANCE. The result is an even more flexible, energy-saving and yet still sportive performance. Turn after turn flows more smoothly and harmoniously.

02_BIO-LOGIC STANCE The toe area is slightly raised compared to the heel, making turn initiation easier. First and foremost this forces a more dynamic posture with better knee flex angles. The result is a highly efficient, less tiring skiing feel. The muscles supporting the knee are more actively balanced for improved protection.

03_BIO-LOGIC GEOMETRY Degressive sidecut: the radius is smaller in front of the binding than behind it. Just like a power steering system, this makes quick turns possible and reduces the extreme stresses at the end of a turn. Turning becomes more harmonious and precise.

04_BIO-LOGIC WOODCORE xtraLIGHT originally designed for the high-end V-Werks line, this high-quality, super-light wood core so effectively supports the Bio-Logic construction, through increased manoeuvrability and reduced stress on the skier that we decided to integrate it into the Essenza collection as well.

05_ROCKER while a tip rocker inherently provides improved agility, when combined with Bio-Logic technology this element takes on an even greater role. The variable edge grip, which changes according to the skier’s speed, delivers relaxed but secure carving through all turns.

Bio-logic Technology Improved dynamics, less effort, easier turning and improved protection for the knee joint – that is BIO-LOGIC. The project was kicked off by a study showing that women are much more likely to injure their knees while skiing then men. Not because they ski differently, but because their anatomy reacts more sensitively to strains. Working closely with renowned doctors and athletes, our Essenza team succeeded in engineering BIO-LOGIC to improve the skiing experience while also cutting down on extreme strains. The knee is subjected to reduced stress levels, with more refined and balanced activation of the leg musculature.

Page 47: 2 feet brand bible

01_PROGRESSive Flex The cross-section of the ski tapers towards the tail - from thicker edges to a thinner centre. This translates into a more flexible rear section of the ski, which is particularly beneficial at the end of a turn. The ski accelerates less aggressively out of turns and supports a neutral stance to help prevent the skier from sitting in the proverbial "back seat". The effect is less effort for better turns. 02_PROGRESSive Edge A moderate upward curvature of the ski in its forward section means that the length of the edge can be varied. When the ski is only tilted to a shallow angle, a shorter section of the edge is in contact with the snow. On moderately fast turns where not much edge angulation is needed the relevant edges stay effectively shorter allowing the ski to turn more easily and have less stress on the skier. That edge "extends" automatically as the owner’s skiing style becomes more advanced and more pressure is put on the edges in a turn. The ski then offers the stability required for more speed.

03_XTD PROGRESSive The athletically ambitious variant of the Progressive technology with a wooden core provides extra reinforcement of the tip rocker area for increased stability at higher speeds.

PROGRESSive Technology Progressive technology gives the intermediate to advanced skier the best of both worlds: ease of turn entry, smooth ride quality from the rockered tip, and easy comfortable turn exit thanks to the softer tail section. All these characteristics contribute to less fatigue, allowing the improving skier greater enjoyment.

Page 48: 2 feet brand bible

SPEEDWALL A ski with sidewalls - not a new idea in and of itself, but Völkl reinvents this historic construction and takes it to the next level with its SPEEDWALL technology.

Modern racers spend more time on their sidewalls and edges than their bases. For the first time we've taken this development to its logical conclusion in two new Racetiger models. The innovation is that we view the sidewalls not just as lateral boundaries to the skis, but rather as a continuation of the surface that contacts the snow. That's why we construct the new Speedwalls out of a proprietary composite sintered base material - SPEEDWALL sidewalls can be waxed and treated with the same products as the bases. For athletes

that means less friction and more speed.

POWER SWITCH INDIVIDUAL If each skier is unique-different weights, sizes, skiing abilities, ages, skiing ambitions, how can one ski designed for the average provide the perfect experience? World Cup athletes have individual skis built custom for them; but what about the normal advanced skier? Marker and Völkl have been promoting and working on the concept of the perfect set up since the development of Motion. With POWER SWITCH INDIVIDUAL we have brought the dream of customized skis to life and provide the trade with the perfect key to satisfy the needs of every individual Racetiger customer. The new system can be adjusted with a special tool (key) to match the individual skier characteristics of weight, age and skier ability. The competent dealer can individualize each ski's stiffness by adjusting a recessed screw in the rear of the ski, which either compresses or relaxes a carbon rod built into the ski's core. The flexibility and thus the grip and agility of the skis can be modified in this way to achieve a perfectly individualized setup for the skier.

3D SKI CONSTRUCTION Dual XTD Transmission Sidewall A light but highly stable full rocker shape, paired with an extra wide longitudinal reinforcement above the ski deck. The reinforcement belts are aligned to channel stress toward the outside of the ski. This works with the sidewall construction to prevent chatter and ensure that the necessary pressure is applied to the edges at high speeds. Ski Model: RTM 84 / RTM 81 Dual XTD Transmission The cap construction as opposed to sidewall makes these skis more forgiving and a bit softer in the general ride characteristics yet still delivers the necessary power reserves for athletic skiers push-ing their limits. Ski Model: RTM 80 / CHARISMA / ALLURA XTD Transmission The RTM 77 follows a similar construction philosophy, although the reinforcement is somewhat less pronounced, giving the ski a softer feel. Optimized for ambitious intermediates, the ski’s construction provides the edge pressure needed to rise up to the next level of speed and confidence. Ski Model: RTM 77 / CHIARA / VIOLA XTD Progressive Technology Both the normal & dual woodcore versions have a unique 3D design which stabilizes the front of the ski body and transmits forces toward the ski’s centre for a comfortable ride. For a tip rocker construction this translates into the stability needed for higher speeds without making turns any less gentle to initiate. At the end of the turn the classically cambered tail provides a clean arc for the curve to follow. Ski Model: RTM 75is / RTM 75 / Aurena Progressive Technology Tip rocker meets PROGRESSive Flex – PROGRESSive Technology! The very moderate reinforcement across the edge in the middle zone of the ski delivers a sufficient degree of stability without making turns any less gentle to initiate. The soft-flexing tail facilitates drift at the end of turn, especially for beginners. Ski Model: RTM 73 / Adora

SKI CORES EXTENDED SENSORWOOD CORE Created in a complex CNC milling process, the Extended Sensor wood Core is ‘extended’ upward and lengthwise, milled to form the chambers of the Dual XTD Transmission construction. The material is a blend of poplar and beech wood, and is found in Völkl’s highest performing models.

FULL SENSOR WOODCORE Like the Extended Sensor wood Core, the Sensor wood core is CNC milled using vertically laminated poplar and beech wood.

XTD WOODCORE For the XTD Wood Core, two complete, full wood cores run parallel down both sides along the ski’s full length. This design allows precise edge grip and stability at high speeds. Both XTD Wood Core and XTD Sensor Wood Core are the basis for VÖLKL’s Double GripXTD technology.

DUAL WOODCORE As the name suggests, The Dual Wood Core consists of parallel strips of wood surrounded by PU. It is then layered with extra glass sheets top and bottom for added ski rebound.

WOODCORE A central member surrounded by PU, Wood Core provides stable, lively skis to improving novice and intermediate skiers.

XTRA LIGHT CORES In the new V-Werks and Essenza series, along with the Backcountry series, our Xtralight wood cores are created using lighter weight Paulownia material, along with channels milled out of the bottom of the core. Snappy and resilient, these high tech wood cores save weight while improving performance.

Page 51: 2 feet brand bible

MULTI-LAYER WOOD CORE Völkl freeskiing models feature a multi-layer wood core with two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is poplar. The more dense wood creates secure screw retention and stability, while the softer poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern can be tailored to each ski model to match the desired performance characteristics.

POWERED BY TITANIUM The top-of-the-line models in the VÖLKL ski range boast a special wood core tuning system - all powered by titanium. Above and below the XTD Sensor Wood Core or XTD Wood Core, there is a layer of titanium reinforcing the ski and add-ing power and stability. The thin yet extremely strong alumin-ium alloy extends its unparalleled dampening properties particularly at high speeds.

POWERED BY STEEL Many high performance Völkl models feature a layer of spring steel below the ski's core. This metal layer absorbs vibration, providing addition stability for a fabulous blend of smooth-riding, yet lively performance.

POWER CONSTRUCTION Völkl’s longest-running construction, Power Construction utilizes traditional vertical sidewalls and a torsion box internal layup. Used in racing skis as well as all the freeskiing models, this versatile, proven construction provides tremendous grip, stability, and a smooth ride.

TOUGH BOX CONSTRUCTION Strengthening the multi-layered wood core with several layers of Fiberglass or Carbon arranged against each other at an angle of 45° and impregnated with epoxy resin to create a dense wood core increasing the strength while maintaining the flexibility of the skis wood core.

Power Shell Construction Völkl’s Power Shell Construction utilizes a full cap shell, with-out a vertical sidewall. This design allows for an easy, round flex pattern, with an extremely friendly ride quality.

Page 52: 2 feet brand bible

GRIP TECHNOLOGY

Double GripXTD Ever since carving was invented, edge grip has been vital. Precise hold has become the deciding factor in skiing as speeds and carving forces have increased. In order to optimise power over the edges, VÖLKL has developed the Double Grip principle: double height, double edge grip! The doubling of the Wood Core construction with a second wood core built up over the edges allows greater power transfer and stability and increases leverage. With Double Grip XTD, the additional wood core extends along the entire length of the ski. This makes the continuous flex of the ski rounder and more harmonious. The result is precise edge grip and reliable hold so you can carve your track through the snow at high speeds

Power grip By means of its special 3D design, the Powergrip construction method generates more edge pressure, particularly in the binding area. The rails are interrupted in this area of the ski in order to house the 3Motion binding designed specially for Powergrip construction. The fact that the structure is divided into a front and rear area results in relatively low side walls, allowing even more direct contact between the ski boot and the edge. In conjunction with the binding, the ski gains the perfect blend of powerful edge grip, more rounded flex in the binding areas and sporty, but not too aggressive, characteristics. More grip for less effort!

Double Grip LT Edge grip is not only a privilege for experts. On the contrary, optimum hold means that beginners can be successful more quickly. With this understanding VÖLKL has designed our really lightweight ski models - which are popular among beginners - with a special version of the Double Grip design: Double Grip LT. With this ultra-light construction the ski has just the right amount of height at the edges to increase the edge pressure - but not at the cost of making the ski too aggressive.

Page 63: 2 feet brand bible

Climbing Aid The titanium climbing aid offers three positions with 0°, 7° and 13° which can easily be accessed with the ski pole, even in an unstable standing position. Integrated elastomer paddings dampen the impact reducing the irritating traditional “clack” and allow more comfortable hiking.

Hike Mechanism Marker introduced the concept of passive safety, and the Duke Continues in that tradition. With the lever secured under the boot, you can be sure your binding cannot switch back into touring mode – that‘s the safest way to ski the big stuff! In addition, when the skier goes into touring mode, the entire interface moves back 4cm for better balance while climbing and easier kick turns.

Power Width Design The original Marker breakthrough for wider freeskiing skis, based on a 76mm platform. Wider connection brackets create better power transmission for all Marker Royal Family and Tour bindings.

Multi Stance Adjustor The question used to go: where on the ski should I put the bindings? The popular Schizo technology broke new ground, offering the ability to move the stance fore/aft 3cm in each direction for the ultimate versatility. It allows the skier to go from pipe and park to all mountain skiing or from hard, groomed snow to powder with the turn of a simple screw on the toe piece.

Hollow Tech Our fibre-reinforced frame provides impressive stability and is yet very light, thanks to a gas injected hollow construction.

Page 64: 2 feet brand bible

The revolutionary Xcell Piston technology in the toe piece keeps the boot centred during the quick jolts that often happen on the race course. Staying centred in the binding, with more precision and control means faster times in the race course! Race Xcell Toe The new toe pieces with magnesium sole holders (on the Xcell 16.0) stand out for the large contact area with the boot sole, top power transfer and impressive shock absorption. The unique Xcell technology makes it possible to filter out short jolts and keep the ski boot perpetually centred.

Race Xcell Heel The next logical step in the improvement of our Twincam heel, with more power, higher elasticity in the release and an optimized performance curve. The new construction increases the boot and ski connectivity for longer periods, even in extremely steep terrain, ensuring precise ski guidance until released. It also offers improved power transfer through the wider connection of the heel rail (NEW: 43 mm). The TC heel’s familiar effective step-in behaviour has also been further improved

Skatedeck™ 6 ply’s of horizontally layered Maple veneers built the same as a skateboard for unbeatable strength & shock resistance

CORES Our 100% wood Macroblock cores are made from the highest quality, widest, laminates for a long lasting camber & energy life as well as the best engineered weight to strength ratio per model.

Maplelite Macroblock™ Solid Maple under foot with light weight Aspen at the tips for durability & reduced swing weight

Maple Macroblock™ 2 full length Maple stringers surrounded by Aspen for the best of both worlds

Aspen MacroBlock™ 100% Aspen for the lightest, most nimble feel

Metal Matrix™ 3D Die cut metal Titanal laminate provides more power & grip where you need it while reducing weight where you don’t.

CARBON OLLIE BAND Tip to tail carbon-fibre stringers enhance energy & pop when ollieing over snowboarders

Page 78: 2 feet brand bible

Fatty Base & Edge™ 30% thicker base & edge (2mm wide x 2.5mm high) edge & 1.7mm thick base high dramatically in-creases durability & tuning life

Thin Tip™ Super thin core & sidewall in the tips are 100grams lighter per pair for reduced swing weight & tip bounce

Directional Flex™ The softer tip floats & initiates turns easily while the stiffer tail provides power, stability & high speed control

Symmetric Flex™ The same flex pattern in-front and behind your boot conforms to terrain equally riding forward & backwards

Butterzone™ The thinnest point of the ski is in front & behind the binding to create a “hinge” point for smooth, controllable butters & presses without sacrificing all-mountain handling

Longer Active Edge MORE GRIP! LESS SLIP! 20% longer sidecut edge length in contact with the snow when turning than others in its class.

GEOMETRY

You can’t always see geometry, but you can defi-nitely feel it. Ours is designed by skiers using lots of math.

Early Rise™ The rise in the tip starts earlier for effortlessly stay-ing on top of the snow without needing to sit back & easier turn initiation.

Early Taper™ The widest point of sidecut starts tapering earlier in the tip to reduce tail drag and hooking in pow-der.

Fivecut™ 5 different sizes of sidecut radius shapes are blend-ed into one, for intuitive control & unlimited turn shapes

Tech Specs

Our designers blended varying amounts of rocker with different degrees of camber and created Baseline™ Technology. Rocker /camber profiles for every condition.

ROCKER: Easy initiation, versatility, agility CAMBER: Control, edge hold, rebound K2 ROCKER TYPES

This slightly elevated tip and increased tip length provides effortless initiation and flawless transitions, while camber along the rest of the running surface delivers precision, power, and edge-hold. Simply put, Speed Rocker offers high performance precision and edge hold on firm snow.

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions. Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

This tip has the most elevation and longest meas-urement of Rocker and offers skiers a “surfy” feel with enhanced soft-snow performance. The camber region still exists to ensure edge-hold on firmer conditions. Simply put, Powder Rocker provides unmatched flotation in deep snow.

This elevated tip and tail assures effortless initiation at slow speeds, stability throughout the turn, and a predictable release from the turn. Simply put, Catch-free Rocker provides confidence, control, and ease for developing skiers.

Featuring an elevated tip and tail with zero camber underfoot, Jib Rocker offers the best blend of playfulness for butters and surface tricks combined with enhanced pop for unmatched ollie power. Simply put, Jib Rocker is designed for ollies, butters, and predictable pop.

Page 109: 2 feet brand bible

By focusing on the advantages of Rocker, in combination with an X-shaped Mod structure and carbon web, K2 has developed RoX Technology; a new standard for high-performance ski design with unshakable hold and effortless turn initiation. CORE: STRENGTH AND STRUCTURE A K2 ski is designed with a primary core and structural layers that determines the flex along the entire length of the ski.

MOD: SUSPENSION Added on top of the ski’s primary core is a secondary core, called the MOD Structure that essentially acts on its own as a suspension system quieting the ride of the ski. The key is that this secondary core acts independently from the primary core, so it does not affect the overall flex of the ski.

CARBON WEB: INCREASED EDGE HOLD A raised X-shaped pattern has been added to specific regions of the MOD structure to create a structural shape to support a Carbon Web. This X-shaped carbon support is furthest from the core to increase torsional rigidity for greater edge hold and grip. This X-shaped carbon layer works independently of the primary core so the overall longitudinal flex is unchanged.

ROCKER: EFFORTLESS INITIATION AND ACCURACY The addition of Rocker makes a ski with this much torsion effortless and accurate from turn to turn. Without Rocker, a ski with this much torsional rigidity would be nearly impossible to initiate into a turn.

CORES & CONSTRUCTION –K2 uses a variety of wood cores for energy, rebound, and a liveliness only found in wood core skis. Our wood cores consist of a blend of different species of wood based on target performance and desired flex of the ski. We use lightweight composite cores for reduced weight on entry-level and specific kids’ models

Bioflex Cores All of K2’s women’s skis use cores that feature a combination of Aspen, Paulownia, and Bamboo stringer in a unique, female-specific technology known as BioFlex. BioFlex cores are comprised of strong Aspen wood underfoot, which is fused with lightweight Paulownia in the tip and tail using a specific interlocking pattern that reduces swing weight and provides a smooth-flexing ski, especially in women’s ski lengths. For 2013/14, K2 continues to apply this technology to all Super Model skis through one of the following three variations of BioFlex, each specifi-cally tuned to target different performance goals: Bioflex 3 – 80% Aspen/20% Paulownia – Increased performance, strength and durability Bioflex 2 – 70% Aspen/30% Paulownia – reduced swing weight with added performance Bioflex 1 – 60% Aspen/40% Paulownia – Added forgiveness with the lightest swing-weight

Page 110: 2 feet brand bible

Metal Laminate – Built from the base up, a metal laminate construction consists of alternating layers of fiberglass and titanal above and below the core. Metal Laminates provide damp, accurate, unshakable performance, ideal for expert and advanced level skiers.

Triaxial Braid – Developed in 1988 by K2 engineers, the patented Triaxial Braiding machine interlocks strands of fiberglass around a milled core, resulting in great torsional strength while retaining the lively flex patterns inherent in a wood core ski.

Hybritech Sidewall Construction: Hybritech is a unique blend of sidewall and cap constructions. The construction combines the accuracy, power, and performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight characteristics and smooth turn initiation of cap construction.

TwinTech Sidewall Construction: This Twin Tip specific construction increases the durability of K2 sidewall skis. Traditional sidewall construction produces a 90 degree angle where the top material and sidewall meet. The TwinTech construction actually rolls the top material into the sidewall, reducing the angle that is prone to abuse, severely minimizing ski to ski impact damage.

ABSorb TwinTech Sidewall Construction: This construction sandwiches a urethane layer in between ABS for shock ABSorption, lessening the impact of harsh landings. Urethane is used under foot to maximize the dampening, but ABS is used toward the tip and tail to maximize performance and edge control.

Cap Construction: Durable and lightweight “cap” skis are built by a sophisticated moulding process that envelopes the core and internal materials with the top layer of the ski. Used throughout our ski line, cap constructions can be assembled with a variety of different cores. These variations, such as glass and/or metal materials, are the determining factors of the skis’ performance.

Page 111: 2 feet brand bible

Torsion Box Construction: Torsion Box construction is the foundation for the widest range of skis designed by K2. Depending on the dimensions of a ski, and the amount of flex and torsion designed into it, one model of a Torsion Box ski can differ greatly from another. The versatility in the construction enables us to build everything from entry-level through expert skis. While there will be significant differences between skis, they do share the common traits of ease, forgiveness, responsiveness, and energy that can be found in all Torsion Box skis.

Mod Technology High-Performance Suspension System Mod functions by absorbing vibrations and impact loads along the entire ski, providing stronger edge-hold and a higher degree of power and control. Mod is a secondary core that flexes and moves on top of the primary core, allowing the overall ski flex to be unaffected.

Powder Tip Designed to be more predictable in soft snow con-ditions, these tips are designed to strike the perfect balance of maximizing float while reducing tip deflection. These tips are designed with a gentle arc and transition into the sidecut of the ski.

Directional Taper: Moderately wider tip than tail maximizes the skis performance in the forward direction. This means the ski makes a slightly different arc when skiing switch.

Bi-Directional Taper: The tip is still wider but closer in width to the tail. This allows the ski to perform exceptionally well while skiing in the forward direction but the taper enables the skier to have similar switch arc for better and more consistent switch riding

Tapered Tip & Tail Our directional Freeride skis are designed with not just a tapered tip, but also a slight amount of taper in the tail. A tapered tip shifts the widest part of the contact further back to reduce tip weight and deflection in soft and variable snow conditions. The tapered tail allows more control as you exit the turn to either accelerate out or scrub speed as the conditions dictate.

Page 112: 2 feet brand bible

Tip and Tail Grommets -The new freeride tip grommet is a clean, simple design that no longer requires a plug. The durable rubber coating disguises a slit designed to accommodate the Z clip for our skin attachments, or to build a rescue sled.

Swap Base The bases of these skis can come in two different colour ways, depending on how the colours are swapped on the base. This gives two looks to the same ski, and ensures you are not rocking the exact same pair as your buddy who just picked up the same pair of skis.

Groms Tech An entire line of skis created for young skiers who look at the mountain as their playground. Designed with youth-specific technologies like the Noodle Ski System, combined with the right flex, swing weight, and style that defines the needs of the future generation of skiing. Noodle Tech The Noodle Ski System is a totally unique technology for the Groms series. The disadvantage of most junior skis is the stiffness of the overall ski due to the minimum thickness required to retain binding screws. With the Noodle binding system, the plate is actually fused to the ski, requiring no screws so the thinner core provides a smooth-flexing ski. That means better comfort and control for a junior skier and ultimately, more fun. The Noodle Ski System is offered on the girls’ Luv Bug skis.

Explanation of features and their benefits Energy Interlock A rivet-free technology for integrating the cuff and shell, Energy Interlock gives the boots life and power. When the boot flexes forward, the Interlock stretches, creating a build-up of energy. This not only puts lower stresses on the boot material but also produces a smoother, more efficient load transfer, delivering a more natural flex and dynamic performance in all conditions.

Power Fuse Spine A rear co-injected “Y” shaped design that adds strength and power to the Energy Interlock, the PowerFuse SpYne maximizes fore/aft flex efficiency and lateral stiffness for sustained performance and responsiveness in all terrain. Because of the SpYne, we are able to optimize materials in the cuff and shell, eliminating excessive vibrations in rough terrain

Replaceable Outsoles Dual-injected Thermo Plastic Rubber (TPR) with Thermo Plastic Urethane (TPU) increases the life of your boots and provides secure footing whether walking on rock, ice, or stairs.

Padded Mid-Grip Duel Injected Thermo Plastic Rubber (TPR) for added grip and traction while walking on rocks or riding on snowmobiles.

Power Strap Extra wide, strong, and powerful cam-lock Power-Clinch strap featured on the SpYne 130. Durable Velcro Powerstraps in varying widths for support and strength on all other models.

Dual Cuff Alignment Adjust laterally by +/- 2.2 degrees on medial and lateral sides for a total range of 4.4 degrees. This enables adjustment to the lower leg angle for maximum comfort and performance.

Alloy Buckles 6060 T6 Extruded Hardened Aluminium Alloy built with a minimalist lightweight design.

Synchro Interlock Built on the Energy Interlock design platform, the Synchro Interlock enables the simultaneous release of both an internal wedge and the Interlock. When released, the Synchro Interlock delivers greater fore and aft range of motion for more efficient touring. Engaging the wedge and Interlock functionally creates an all-mountain boot, with 100% of the flex index and uncompromised downhill performance. This user-friendly design can be locked or released with the flick of a ski pole, for on-the-go efficiency.

Replaceable Din Compatible Outsoles Thanks to our Integrated Tech Fittings, our replaceable outsoles are all DIN-compatible, so you no longer have to switch outsoles to accommodate your various binding setups.

PowerBuckle Designed exclusively for our freeride collection, the K2 PowerBuckle combines the lightweight efficiency of an extra-wide powerstrap with the performance, strength, and reliability of a traditional buckle. The versatility of the design enables greater range of motion than a normal Buckle, for more efficient touring, while transforming your three-buckle touring boot into a four-buckle hard-charging freeride boot.

Integrated Tech Fittings Tech fittings are fully integrated into the shell in-jection, instead of just the outsole pods. This de-sign guarantees greater strength, improved tor-sional stiffness, durability, and makes our outsoles compatible with both DIN - alpine and tech bind-ings.

Liner Info Hybrid Liner Technology Since the human foot varies much more in size and shape than the lower leg, we’ve combined a traditional upper liner with an Intuition lower to create optimal comfort and performance. Traditional foam upper with Power Collar provides superior power and energy transmission. INTUITION® lower offers warmth, comfort and customization to fit any foot shape.

INTUITION® TECH K2 Moulded/Lasted INTUITION® liners are first moulded to an internal foot shape (last) before they are moulded to the shell. This process creates the most seamless fit between liner and shell, reducing air pockets that cause performance dead spots. A moulded/lasted liner delivers the most advanced and comfortable “out-of-the-box” fit. WHY INTUITION®? All K2 IINTUITION® liners are made with ULTRALON EVA foam, which is renowned for its mould-ability, flexibility, and durability. ULTRALON thermo-forming cross-linked closed cell foam is designed to be more resistant to heat-related shrinkage and pressure related to “packing out” than any other foam in the world. INTUITION® liners are also lighter weight and warmer than standard liners. Inner Layer: Open cell EVA foam is used for comfort and warmth against the foot. Middle layer: Comprised of Regular Density ULTRALON EVA designed to spread loads more evenly, lessen impacts, and reduce hotspots. Outer Layer: This performance layer is comprised of High Densi-ty ULTRALON EVA. It is extremely durable and rigid, making it optimal at transmitting power to the shell.

Precision Fit INTUITION® Our premium, heat-mouldable liner, the PrecisionFit INTUITION®, is moulded/lasted to deliver a precise “out-of-the-box” fit, minimize “dead spots,” and optimize power transfer between the liner and shell. Heat-Mouldable Asymmetric Tongues provide the necessary comfort and performance needed to reduce shin bang and ensure smooth, precise flex initiation. The Power Wedge and Power Collar offer varied forward lean and the upper cuff support you demand for charging hard. Lux Fit INTUITION® / (2Layer) The LuxFit INTUITION® heat-mouldable liner combines the performance and fit of a traditional PVC liner with the benefits of strategically placed ULTRALON EVA foam. Lasted for a precise “out-of-the-box” fit, the LuxFit INTUITION® also includes heat-Mouldable Asymmetric Tongues to reduce shin bang and ensure smooth, precise flex initiation. The Power Wedge and Power Collar offer varied forward lean and the upper cuff support needed for taking advantage of challenging conditions. cushFit Lasted The CushFit liner utilizes a combination of standard open and closed cell EVA foam in a similar multi-layer construction to offer warmth, comfort, and performance right out of the box. Asymmetric Tongues enhance fit and ensure smooth flex initiation, while the Power Collar offers the upper cuff support you demand to tackle the whole mountain PrecisionFit Tour INTUITION® Our PrecisionFit Tour INTUITION® liner has a high performance moulded/lasted design to give superior fit and ski performance, with the addition of Tour Flex Notches. These notches are strategically placed at the main hinge points, allowing the liner to flex naturally with the ankle and shell when in walk mode, improving range of motion and touring efficiency.

Technology

The Foam, How it’s Made Specially formulated thermo-forming closed cell EVA foam. This foam consists of millions of tiny cells, or bubbles, which are created by pouring measured amounts of the mixed ingredients into a two-piece mould which is heated slowly and evenly to a specific temperature and pressure. It is then allowed to cool to ambient temperature before the mould is opened and the foam is removed.

Why it’s Great Intuition Ultralon foam has a very uniform cell structure and high percentage (70% – 80%) of cross-linkage between molecules in each cell wall. This means that the foam does not allow the gases in each of the tiny bubbles to migrate to the others, which would change the shape of the foam. The membrane between the cells is treated with chemical “fillers” which create a more homogeneous membrane. These properties result in the ability to heat-mould the foam into a specific shape, which it will retain until re-heated. This is how Intuition guarantees the highest quality ‘memory’, the least heat-related shrinkage, and the most resistance to ‘packing out’.

Weight and Warmth All Intuition foams are much lighter than materials used in traditional stitched and injection liners. Our liners are not weighed down by heavy plastics or powder fillers, and even our stiffest cuff reinforcements are made of 100% foam. Intuition liners will not only provide you with superior warmth and comfort, they are also up to 0.5 kilograms lighter than other brands.

Moulding and Memory Molding Intuition liners to your foot and your boot at the same time, allows us to provide a completely customized, full contact fit. The process requires that the liner be heated for a period of time, until the foam is soft and malleable. It is then ready to mould to your foot and the inside of your boot for increased comfort and improved performance. The foam can be reheated several times without compromise, which means moulded liners can be spot-heated for small specific adjustments, or completely re-moulded to fit them to new shells or footbeds.

The Fitting Process When using hot air blowers 1. Prepare boots Unbuckle/unlace shells completely to allow boots to open up as much as possible.

2 Insert Intuition liners into shell IMPORTANT-remove any paper wadding or foot beds prior to heating. Make sure liner sits properly inside shell (without folding or wrinkling). 3. Place boots on heating tubes 4. Turn on heater 5. Set timer Select appropriate time for liner model you are fitting. Recom-mended heating time for Intuition liners is 4-12 minutes depend-ing on Model 6. Prepare customer for custom fit using Intuition Fit Kit, Inspect Feet. Pad Bone Spurs/ Protrusions/ areas of extreme sensitivity with adhesive padding Put one fitting stocking on first foot to fit. Add toe cap on top with Intuition logo over big toe. Pull second fitting stocking over top to hold toe cap in place. Make sure both stockings are pulled all the way up the leg to eliminate wrinkles and protect leg from hot liner. Liners form best when customer wears thinnest socks possible, allowing maximum transfer of detail of foot shape to liner. -Toe caps ensure sufficient toe box is formed into liner, allowing for freedom of movement of toes or “wiggle room”. If extra space is required, consider using two toe caps on each foot.

7. PREPARE CUSTOM FOOTBED If custom insole is used, make sure it is trimmed to fit. 8. WHEN HEATING CYCLE FINISHES, REMOVE FIRST BOOT FROM MACHINE Immediately after heat machine “Bell Tone” or “Buzz” sounds. Re-Start the Heat Machine leaving other boot on to heat some more while you are fitting the first boot.

Page 126: 2 feet brand bible

9. RE-INSERT INSOLE INTO THE LINER Remove the first boot from the machine and insert the CORRECT INSOLE into the liner. Work quickly. The liner may feel HOT to handle with bare hands. Use lightweight cotton gloves, if necessary. 10. FIT SKI BOOT TO CUSTOMER’S FOOT With customer standing, guide foot into the first boot. Instruct the customer to bend knee forward. Pull up on rear of liner. Instruct customer to strike heel firmly against the floor. Pull up on the rear of the liner one more time. Wrap the lower under lapping panel of the liner first. Make sure panel is smooth against instep and shin. Wrap overlapping panel again around instep and shin. Make sure panel is smooth (no wrinkles). 11. CLOSE SKI BOOT BUCKLES & VELCRO Quickly place Krypton Tongue in correct closure position. Close Buckles. Close Velcro Powerstrap. NOTE: During Thermo Moulding - the looser the buckle closure tension, the tighter the fit. The tighter the buckle closure tension, the looser the fit. 12. FLEX, STRIKE HEEL, STAND STILL Instruct customer to flex aggressively 2 – 3 times and strike the foot diagonally against floor towards the heel and flat against boot sole. Instruct customer to keep weight evenly distributed across the entire boot sole. It is best not to move around while liner forms and cools. Placing toes against a board (2x4) helps push heel back towards heel of boot, resulting in better heel hold. Repeat steps 6 - 9 with the other boot. Fitting is complete and boots may be removed from feet in 6 - 10 minutes, or when cool to the touch. 13. Assess fit -When liners have cooled sufficiently, remove boots, stockings and toe caps. Have customer put on their usual ski/snowboarding socks and place feet back into boots. Buckle or lace up to a comfortable tension and assess fit.

Page 127: 2 feet brand bible

When Using a Convection Oven The preparation and fitting procedure is the same, however the heating part is different 1. Place the Liners without the shell into the convection Oven 2. Turn on Oven, making sure the oven doesn’t reach at temperature exceeding 110oC 3. Watch the liners closely, as soon as they start ballooning remove and insert the custom insole and put the liner in the shell 4. Place the boot on the customers foot and continue from stage 10 of standard fitting procedure Extra Notes/Fit Tips: Pay attention to fit description when customer first tries liners in boots. If liners felt tight when first tried on, buckle/lace extra tight when heat moulding to compress

foam and create more room for foot. If liners felt loose when first tried on, buckle/lace a bit more loosely to avoid compressing

(thinning out) foam. As long as liner feels secure, with no sloppiness or movement, and no ma-jor pressure points, go ahead and heat mould.

Liners can be reheated and reformed if they do not take proper shape during first forming. If

you need to adjust fit/hot spots in a specific area (ex. ankle or toe box) consider spot-heating with heat gun to push or punch them out without changing overall fit. Be sure to keep heat gun moving constantly over section to avoid overheating or burning fabric or foam.

“Break-in Period” - Customers may need to ski a couple of times to let liners settle and feet

adjust to the fit. If customer identifies hotspots while skiing, consider adjusting as suggested above.
