1 The Wickenburg Art Club ARTIFACTS February 1, 2018 Random Thoughts from Fred It’s not too late to sign up for becoming a part of the Artisans’ Fair. We are nine days out and volunteers are still needed! Please call Shirley Bartell to help fill in the blanks! Shirley can be reached at (240) 723-6963 or [email protected] Join the fun, meet the people and see what makes WAC such a great organization: all of us working together for a common goal. The club renovations will start again after the Artisans’ Fair. We will be looking for volunteers for this, too. Getting the kiln installed and the studio floor renovated were important goals accomplished in January. The board is looking into some other upgrades for the club. We feel the need to provide a larger message board to replace the one next to the front door. With the number of activities going on in the building, we should post schedules to eliminate confusion for our members and the public. We also feel that the sound system should be upgraded using a new amplifier with wireless speakers. Be sure to mark your calendar for the February 12th General Meeting @ 6:30. Congratulations to Pierre Prouty and his crew for a successful “Taste of Wickenburg” at Wickenburg Ranch on January 27. It was a beautiful day in the Arizona sun! Respectfully submitted, Fred Fleck President

The January competition kicked off another year for member artists to showcase their art at each monthly meeting. Congratulations to Vivian Klinck for earning first place with her oil portrait titled “Fitz”. Second and third place honors went to wood workers Joe Nagy for his Kitchen Cutting Boards and William Espenshade, Jr. for his Manzanita Sunburst Clock.

Just a reminder: Members need not be juried to compete and may continue to offer their art until they earn a first place award, which gives them the opportunity to compete for Artist of the Year each December. Donna Heslip, Chair - Artists of the Month

Memorial for Donnie Ross

I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend, Donnie Ross. In the early 2000’s to 2010 Donnie and I shared exhibiting together, helping each other pack and unpack our art at shows, and sharing thoughts of our art pieces. My Christmas card to Donnie was returned. Then I knew that something was wrong. God Bless you Donnie, you are now in your heavenly Home. Joani Mangold For those who would like to send condolences, contact information for Donnie’s son is: Taylor Ross, 1425 Roudy Drive, Kingman, AZ 86401 A memorial will be held in two to four weeks.

COMING SOON!

Spring Fine Arts Show Michele Schuck, Chair

The Wickenburg Art Club will kick off its annual Spring Fine Art Show with an artists’ reception March 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Wickenburg Art Center, 188 S. Tegner St. in Wickenburg. Awards will be given at the reception, which is open to the public.

The juried exhibition will showcase two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork in a wide variety of media including oil, pastel, watercolor, bronze, photography and jewelry. With original artwork by over 30 regional artists, there will be something for every art lover to enjoy. The show, open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, will run through April 8.

This will be the art club’s 13th Spring Fine Art Show, which runs concurrently the first two weeks of “Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West” Invitational Exhibition and Sale at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. “Since the art center is only a short walk from the museum, it’s the perfect time to visit Wickenburg. There’s so much wonderful art to see at both venues,” states Michele Schuck, chairman of this year’s event.
