The XTR-RACK range of whole rack 2D code readers is made up of three

standard models, the XTR-RACK, XTR-RACK FLEX and XTR-RACK LF.

In addition, the XTR-RACK PRO readers are designed to meet high

throughput needs.

The XTR-RACK, XTR-RACK FLEX and XTR-RACK LF readers use CCD

imaging and sophisticated decoding methods to provide robust sample

identification in just 10 seconds (total scan and decode time).

OPTIONS

A choice of additional options are available with these models (see

table below). These include an integrated linear barcode reader and

cryo version which features and integrated frost reduction system that

enables multiple racks to be read straight from freezer without the

reliability issues that can arise due to the presence of frost or

condensation.

The XTR-RACK PRO high speed whole rack readers can be easily

integrated into automated systems, with a total scan and decode

time of just 2 seconds for a rack of 96 or 384 tubes.

CRYO MODELS more about the integrated frost reduction system

The storage of biological samples such as DNA, protein, blood

fractions and viable cells is becoming commonplace and the need

to store them at lower temperatures (e.g. -20ºC, -80ºC and Gas

Phase Liquid Nitrogen) has resulted in reading challenges for

traditional rack readers.

FluidX have developed rack readers capable of reading multiple

rackswithout the build-up of frost or condensation on the underside

of the glass which causes the code to become unreadable.

Standard FluidX racks readers will operate in a cold environment as

low as -20ºC and decoding the occasional rack of cryo tubes

should not be considered an issue due to the quick read time.

However, when scanning multiple racks the accumulated time the

cold racks spend in contact with the reader glass causes a drop

the air temperature on the underside of the glass.

Condensation and frost can appear which results in poor reading

capability and possible damage to the scanning head.

FluidX 2D-coded tubes adhere to ECC200 standards and our

readers employ superior decoding algorithms, however unreliable

reading can occur as the condensation builds up as the code is

obscured and the contrast between the code and the back-

ground is diminished.

The XTR-RACK CRYO achieves 100% decoding after reading more than 40 racks from a -20ºC freezer.

Unique tube picking, with integrated 2D code reader, weigh

station, decapper AND liquid handling.

The XTP-1152 represents a unique combination for rapid picking

and processing of all common types of microtube including 0.5,

0.65, 0.75 and 1.4ml tubes (with or without 2D datamatrix coding).

XTP-1152 Automated Tube Picker and Sorter (cont)

The XTP-1152 has the capacity to hold twelve 1.4ml tube racks, a small

footprint and the ability to handle large workloads, and includes the

following modules:

XYZ arm

The main arm carries the single channel sample processing unit, tube

gripper and linear bar-code reader.

Sample processing unit

The sample processing module consists of a precision 1.0ml syringe

and drive mechanism (volume range 1.0ul to 1000ul) which can be

linked to either a Teflon coated stainless steel probe or a tip nozzle

capable of accepting 250ul or 1000ul disposable tips.

Tube gripper

Capable of picking all standard 0.5ml, 0.6ml, 0.75ml and 1.4ml tubes

and cryo-vials. When used with the uncapping station, the tube

gripper is also able to uncap screw caps to allow access by standard

liquid handling tips.

Linear bar-code reader

For racks and micro-plate identification, suitable for use with most

racks and plate types.

Software incorporates “smart positioning” which allows the user to

place racks in any position, the XTP-1152 will identify the position and

process accordingly.

2D bar-code reading station

Will identify the 2D code on the base of each tube.

Based on the established X-Track reader hardware and software this

reader provides a very high read rate with all varieties of tubes. Tube

ID can be linked to a data-base using ODBC connectivity for a two-

way exchange of data.

Weigh station

A four position balance specifically designed for integration into

robotic systems to provide fast and accurate weighing (mg level).

A variety of tube, rack, microplate, vial holders and adaptors are

available. Easily converted for either rapid change-over of racks

XTL-96 Microtube Labelling System

The Xtl-96 is a highly specialised print and apply label applicator for

automatic application of individually printed labels on tubes in 24,

48 and 96-format racks.

Uses thermal printing method to label 800 tubes / hour.

Standard label size 28x15mm or 28x12.5mm, additional label sizes

are also available.

Suitable for use at low temperatures, as low as -80°C.
