A visionary and achiever, Jamal Hodge is a multi-award winning filmmaker. Since May of 2016 Jamal Hodge’s films have been an official selection in 67 Film Festivals and won over 18 awards. Jamal has had screenings for films he directed at the illustrious Cannes Film Festival for two consecutive years, in 2016 for The Kind Ones and in 2017 for the Knockout Game. Jamal also has had screenings at the Urban World Film Festival, Hip Hop Film Festival, New York City Horror Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and others. Jamal has readied the scripts to be feature length versions for his award winning films, The Kind Ones and Knockout Game. Jamal also completed directing a dramatic series pilot titled, A Happy Divorce, and is shooting a feature called Mourning Meal http://mourningmealmovie.com/

In the summer of 2018, Jamal made his cable-network television directing debut on the ID: Investigation Discovery series, Primal Instinct. Hodge directed all six Primal Instinct series episodes for the entire first season, which at its ratings peak was #6 on cable and #2 in its time slot. Early in Hodge’s career he directed the documentary, An African-American in Russia, that won the Golden Spire for Film and Video Youth Works at the San Francisco International Film Festival. Jamal’s early film making success continued when he was the cinematographer for Bullets In the Hood: A Bed-Stuy Story, which won the New York Emmy Award for Excellence in Teen Programming. Jamal’s impressive budding career was also credited for editing content for HBO’s 2005 documentary, Dope Sick Love and Discovery’s 2005 documentary, Off To War. Off To War was first released at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival.

As a producer, Jamal has worked on several independent films including Jake. The film Jake has been screened at Cannes Short Corner, Pan African Film Festival, Bronze Lens and other festivals. Jamal recently produced a project with director Sharice Chasi on her film starring Ernie Hudson, I love You Forever. And is currently on the Producing Team of ‘Pierre The Pigeon Hawk’ an animated feature film in development with Executive Producer Nick Cannon, that has Whoopi Goldberg attached.

Hodge’s experience extends beyond film and scripted television. He has directed international commercials and local commercials for Nittsu and Blackberry. He also volunteers his time and gives back to the community by teaching the craft of film making to children, donating his experience and advice through Big Brothers - Big Sisters, the Pro-TV Program, DREAM!, Mythic Bridge, as well as Japan’s Keio Academy.

Humbled by his accomplishments, Hodge has blossomed to take his talents to the next level. Jamal’s tone of work, or what he calls, “inspirational darkness”, can be described as a melding of genres. The Horror, Psychological Thriller, and Inspirational genres are Jamal’s usual forte of film making. His mission is to add value to people’s lives through his unique brand of cinema. He’s excited to continue to grow outstanding partnerships to create memorable and impactful cinematic experiences for audiences across the world.
