Fact Finding Definition of Team Method

Team Method is a training methodthat divides members into teams, the basicunit of TNTT. Team Captains are givenresponsibilities and the authority to carry outorders with the help of assistants andmembers of the team.

The Purpose and Benefits of a Team

Independence. Each team can function and take careof itself. All team members struggle with the teamschallenges and work together to face them. HTs arestill present for guidance and support but the team isthe driving force of all its own actions.

Peer Education. There is Vietnamese proverb thatstates Hc thy khng ty hc bn. (roughtranslation: Learning from teachers cannot compareto learning from friends.). TNTT leaders take this proverb to heart and understand that an individual canlearn faster and easier from his/her peers than from anolder authority figure. The team method allowsmembers to complement each others strengths andweaknesses. We improve our weaknesses by learningfrom someone elses strength; we apply our strengths by using to help others with their weaknesses.

Promotes Unity. TNTT recognizes that its membersare the future of the Catholic Church and their ownlocal communities. In order for our

parishes/communities to survive and grow, itsmembers (the current u Nhi, Thiu Nhi, Ngha Smust have a sense of connection to one another.Placing members into teams sows the seeds for newfriendships and a spirit of camaraderie at a youngage.

Sense of Responsibility. Being on a team helpsindividuals realize that they are parts of a greater whole. Once members understand that their actionsaffect others and others rely on them, they begin tochoose their actions based on what is good for theteam, instead of just what is good for them. Theseactions can develop positive characteristics such asthoughtfulness and selflessness.

Self-disciple, Self-willing. Often, people perforgood deeds for the wrong reasons (self-gain, fear punishment). This is especially true in the case youngsters (TNTT members) who have authorifigures (HTs). By placing students in teams anallowing the team to handle its own activities (wisome guidance), they develop the spirit of seldiscipline. Members learn not only to perform godeeds, but also for the right reasons.

Roles and Responsibilities in a TeamThe purpose and benefits of the Team Method caonly be achieved if each member in the team worhard to fulfill his/her roles.

Team Captain. Team captains are specifically chos by the HTs (and in the case of Ngha S, his/h peers) . It is their responsibility to be the brid between HTs and their teammates. After receiviinstructions from HTs, they must delegatresponsibilities and motivate team members accomplish their goals. A good team captain respected by superiors and admired by peers.

Team Assistant Captain. No team captain casucceed solely on this own. Therefore, assista

captains are trained along with the captains. Thtake the leadership role in the absence of the Captaand also help new members become familiar with tteam.

Team Members. Leaders are only as good as th people who follow them, so team members are haan essential role in the teams success. The specifroles that a team member fills depends on his/h
