I. Introduction of the Papera. Brief background of the oceb. Roles and responsibilities of the oce The mission of the library is to assist our students, faculty and sta in

their pursuit for learning by providing information and recreational reading.

Its goal is to create lifelong learners ho are educated users of information

II. Body of the Paper

!s. Regidor, the head librarian of the P"#"$!% library, has beenserving the campus for &' years. (hen asked hy she has stayed in theschool for so long, she says that it as mostly due to convenience. Thelocation of the school is close to her home, and being a governmentemployee has its bene)ts, especially for orking mothers like her.

The hiring process of the school as relatively la*, according to !s.

Regidor. (hen she )rst applied to the school, she as only applying for anentry$level position, or +ibrarian . "he as instead hired as the headlibrarian, or +ibrarian -. The reuirements, hoever, are a little stricter. /librarian applying for the head position reuires that the applicant be a B"+ibrary "cience graduate and a board passer in the )eld. The applicant alsoreuires & years of e*perience. %urrently, other than standard orkplacecode of conduct and reuired rules in maintaining a library, the school is notthat strict on the +ibrary 0nit. "he is free to do anything in the library thatcan directly bene)t the students 1ithin reason and budget, of course2.

#er current salary grade is "alary 3rade 4, or P-,-5$P--,467 per

month. +ike other government employees, she receives additional bene)ts,such as longevity pay for employees ho have served an institution for along amount of time. #oever, in terms of library facilities, there is a vastdierence beteen other 8ep9d$funded schools and the P"#". (hile otherlibrarians in public schools lack books and other facilities and are oftenteachers themselves, a librarian in P"#" has access to a greater amount of resources but a lighter load. (hen she visited public schools for the :%9%aravan, she recalls ho students ere ama;ed by the amount and ualityof facilities that the campus has. "tudents in public schools often endureclasses in the seltering heat in a packed classroom ith barely enoughbooks, chairs, and teachers to get by $ a stark contrast ith the rela*ed

environment and adeuate facilities the !ain %ampus has.

8espite this, !s. Regidor maintains that there are still a couple of problems ith the system that she has to deal ith. The demeanor1especially the noise2 of the students, for e*ample, makes it hard to managethe library especially at peak times. "he also says that she had a hard timegetting along ith her ocemates. "he told us that her ocemates oftenhave a grumpy look in their faces hich makes it hard for the students to

Page 4: 1st Quarter Project

approach them hen they needed help. (hen e asked her the things shedid to cope up ith this situation, she <ust ansered that one should learn tobe patient and to be =e*ible in dealing people.

The library computers are outdated, she also says> they are slo and

freuently break don, hich makes it bad for research ork. "he says, hoever, that she is pushing to upgrade these computers by ne*t year.#oever, ith the kind of government e have, this pro<ect proposalsusually takes so long to get approve hich is also one of the problems thatpublic schools encounter. But hat makes it dierent in Pisay is that e havegenerous alumni ho are illing to donate and help the school in everypossible ay.

III. Recommendation and %onclusion

(orking in Pisay, in comparison ith other public schools has a lotmore bene)ts because of good facilities and higher ages. But like many, government funded schools> Pisay also had its struggles on getting )nancefor the pro<ects hich could bene)t not <ust the students but also theemployees orking in the school. This problem lies ith the slo response of government on the pro<ects proposed by the school. ?ne e*ample is thepro<ect about putting computers in the library for research uses hich tookmore than ten years to be addressed and accomplished.

In line ith this, it ould be a huge convenience for the public schoolsif the government ould allocate bigger funds on education. This is because

a lot of public schools lack the proper euipments and facilities hich areneeded in teaching. @urthermore, the government should also pay attentionand respond faster to the needs and complaints of their employees.
