INTRODUCTION• Fire wood is used in almost all rural area around the world. This leads to
consequence such as1. Loss of forest area2. Loss of fertile soil caused by erosion3. Desertification4. Increase of poverty and conflict5. Smoke exposure.
• Solar cookers are an important contribution towards halting the deforestation process and preserve the environment.1) It helps in fighting poverty.2) There is no CO2 emission which is the main agent responsible for climate change.3) The population becomes less dependent on charcoal.4) Families spend lot of less money.5) There is pay back on the investment after only few month of using Solar Cooker.6) Cooking with Solar Cooker is hygienic.
LITERATURE SURVEYLITERATURE SURVEYA.V. Narasimha Rao, S.Subramanyam
[1] has discussed the role of vessel inside the
cooker.
Based on result, conclusion are ;
1) Putting the vessel on lugs make the bottom of vessel to
improve the heat transfer.
2) Reduction in cooking time is possible.
3) Improve cooker performance without involving much extra
cost.
arig A. Al-Azab, M.Q. Al-odat, F.M Al-
Hussien
has performed the experimental investigation of box
type solar cooker with finned pot and unfinned pot.
The experimental result show that ;
) Cooker temperature can be increased by
using finned cooking pot.
) Cooker efficiency can reach 45% for finned cooking
pot and 40% for Unfinned pot.
. Lertsatitthanakorn
has performed the experimental determination
of energy efficiency of Conical Solar Cooker.
The experimental result show that ;
) Sensible efficiency is about 20%
) The maximum temperature obtained in the
pot containing 2 lit of water is 920C.
.V.S. Murty & Preeti Kanthed
as study the thermal performance of a Solar Cooker having
hase change material as transparent insulation.
he experimental study shows that ;
) PCM is observed to posses a good transmittance and insulation property and hence they are useful during charging and discharging process.
) During charging process, as the PCM material melts, it allow’s the solar radiation into the cooker.
) During discharging as it solidifies, the thickness of insulating medium increases with time and the rate of heat loss from the system also decreases and hence the heat energy retains for a longer time inside the PCM Solar Cooker.
. Gayapershad, S.T. Dladla and M.J. Brooks
as conduct performance evaluation test on
unstove unit and Ishisa box unit with tracked &
ntracked condition.
esult show that ;•
unstove unit reached the maximum temperature of 570C and 550C for tracked and untracked condition respectively.
•shisa box unit reached maximum temp. of 720C and 61 0C for tracked and untracked condition respectively.
) Tracking improve performance resulting in highest final temp. and cooking power.

2) Design parameters • Properties of black paint used.
• Reflectors at different angles.
• Number of glazing
• Insulation properties
• Effectiveness of reflector – Booster system.
3) Operational parameter - Amount and type of food kept for cooking - Numbers of cooking vessel used
The testing of cookers by three test. Stagnation test
Water heating test Cooking test
COOKING POWER AND EFFICIENCY CALCULATION
• Cooking Power
The sensible cooking power is expressed as.
Mw.Cw.dTw +Mv.Cv.dTv
Q h = ------------------------------------
dtWhere:
Qh = Sensible cooking power
Mw = mass of water in kg
Mv = mass of vessel in kg
Cw = specific heat capacity of water in J/kg K
Cv = Specific heat capacity of vessel in J/ kg K
dTw = Temperature change of water in K
dTv = Temperature change of vessel in K
dt = Duration of measurement in second .
Sensible efficiency
• The average sensible efficiency of cooker is determined as the sensible energy used in heating divided by the incident solar flux on the aperture area of the cooker.
Qh
h = ------------------------------------
Aq . IH (average)
Where
h = Cooker efficiency.
Aa = Aperture area.
IH (average) = Average solar insulation during Period .
