announce the First PIP (Pondering Intellectual Property) Competition, 2012
TERMS & CONDITIONS1. ELIGIBILITY
Students currently enrolled in accredited fulltime programs in law anywhere in the world(where the program of study counts as their firstdegree in law). Students pursuing LLMs orhigher degrees in law are not eligible.
2. Only one entry may be submitted per student. Co-authorship is permitted so long as the co-authorsare also individually eligible under the terms ofthis competition.
3. WORD LIMITa. Entries should not be longer than 5,000 words
(inclusive of footnotes & references).b. Entries exceeding the word limit would be
automatically disqualified.
4. SUBMISSION FORMATAll entries should have a cover page containingthe following:
a. Full name;b. Institution, country, date of birth, degree and
year of study;
c. Email address; andd. Telephone number.
5. All entries should be submitted in .doc formatwith the following specifications:
a. Font Type : Times New Romanb. Spacing : 1.5 inch spacingc. Font Size : 12 points
6. PRIZES*First : `25,000 ($500)Second : `12,500 ($250)Third : `7,500 ($150)* Please note the winning entry will be eligible for

7. CLOSING DATEThe closing date for entries is July 14, 2012 at12:00 PM (IST).
8. MODE OF SUBMISSIONAll entries have to be mailed to [email protected] the closing date. Late submissions will notbe considered.
9. JUDGESEntries will be adjudged by a five member panelconsisting of international and national experts inintellectual property laws. The decision of thepanel is final.
10. RESULTSThe results of the competition will be notified onor before September 15, 2012.
11. COPYRIGHTSBy entering the competition, the authorundertakes to:
a. Grant an exclusive license in the entry to theorganizers until the announcement of results,and
b. Seek prior consent from the organizers for anyuse of the prize-winning entries including anysubsequent publication or distribution afterthe announcement of results.
12. The organizers reserve all rights to modify any ofthe abovementioned terms and conditions.

Prof. Vaver is Emeritus Professor
of IP & IT in the University ofOxford and a former Director ofOxford IP Research Centre. He hasadvised governments and writtenextensively on national andinternational IP law and policy.Among his works are IntellectualProperty Law(2nd ed., 2011) and a5-volume edited workIntellectualProperty: Critical Concepts in Law(2006). Prof. Vaver is the editor ofIntellectual Property Journalandhas been awarded the Pattishall
Medal for Teaching Excellence inTrademark and Trade IdentityLaw, presented every four yearsby the International TrademarkAssociation.

JUDGE RANDALL R.RADERChief Judge of the United States

Judge Rader was elevated from theUnited States Claims Court(currently U.S. Court of FederalClaims) in 2010. His is the authorof innumerable path breaking IPdecisions and the co-author of oneof the leading commentaries onPatent Laws.
Judge Raders contributions to thefield of IP laws have won himmany accolades including theJefferson Medal from the New
Jersey Intellectual PropertyAssociation and the SedonaLifetime Achievement Award forIntellectual Property Law in 2009.

After an undergraduate degreefrom NLS, Bangalore, Prof.Basheer completed the BCL andMPhil at the University of Oxfordwith distinction as a WellcomeTrust scholar. He has won severalawards in the past for his articleson Indian patent law. He is thefounder of SpicyIP, one of Indias
leading IP blogs and IDIA, amovement to foster access to legaleducation for the underprivileged.
He was nominated last year as oneof the intellectual property expertson the global advisory council ofthe World Economic Forum(WEF).
