In our Fraser River Delta we have ideal growing conditions

(that is when the weather cooperates!). Farming here is family traditions.

Crops have changed over the years. Potatoes were everywhere, then blueberries took over,

needing a different type of care.

Huge greenhouses are now in use, with temperature and moisture control.

Necessary? I suppose they are, but open fields are good for my soul.

I hope the Agricultural Land Reserve stay diligent in protecting farm land

Welcome to Sue Satterthwaite who has joined KinVillage as our new Communications and Executive Assistant.

Sue brings over 25 years of professional office administration experience including communications functions. She has worked for a variety of organizations, including in the financial, legal, real estate, and retail sectors. Most recently, Sue has been employed by Ivanhoe Cambridge in the management office of the Tsawwassen Mills Mall as well as at Augustine House in Ladner. Her enjoyment of the latter, supporting another organization that provides care, support and housing for seniors, motivated her to join KinVillage. She is delighted to start working here, for an organization she has long admired, in the community in which she was raised and lives.

Sue looks forward to new challenges and the opportunity to contribute her skills as part of our team, as well as getting to know you, our residents, clients and members.

Happy Anniversary KinVillage!

KinVillage first opened its doors to serve the community in 1980. A significant step towards doing so was the incorporation of the Kinsmen Retirement Centre Association (now KinVillage Association) on October 19, 1978.

From these early days, when the local Kinsmen Club rallied the local community and various levels of government for support, until today, almost 40 years later, KinVillage has been providing valued housing, care and recreation services for older adults. Although many things have changed since 1978, our commitment to supporting older adults to live their lives to the fullest endures.

We will be celebrating this milestone October 19th

in the Community Centre as well as across the

KinVillage community. We hope that you, as an

important part of this community and the

KinVillage journey so far, will join us. Watch for

more details coming soon.

As you may know…

...after 19 years at KinVillage, John Lusted, our Director of Recreation, is retiring near the end of this year and

…many people are stopping by to thank him and wish him well (and perhaps try and convince him to stay longer!) and

…John is very fond of KinVillage, particularly the Community Centre, where he’s been “living” for the past several years.

We know that many folks would like to do something special to celebrate John at his milestone. If you would, then with John’s agreement, we invite you to consider making a donation to KinVillage, in John’s honour.

The donations will be used to update the seating in a favourite gathering spot, for John and for many of you, the Café. Donations “In Honour of John” can be made to KinVillage Association online via Canada Helps, or via cheque or cash at the Community Centre Reception. Tax receipts will be issued for any donation of $20 or more. On the occasion of John’s retirement, we will present him with the names of everyone who chose to honour him in this special way.

(p.s. Discussions are still underway about a date and time to gather in the Community Centre and “send off” John. Stay tuned.)
