(1) Wireless light • White: An integrated wireless device, such as a Wireless local area network

(WLAN) device and/or a Bluetooth® device is on. • Amber: All wireless devices are off.

(2) Power light • On: The computer is on. • Blinking: The computer is in the Sleep state. • Off: The computer is off.

(3) Battery light • White: The computer is connected to external power and the battery is charged from 90 to 99 percent. • Amber: The computer is connected to external power and the battery is charged from 0 to 90 percent. • Blinking amber: A battery that is the only available power source has reached a lowbattery level. When

the battery reaches a critical battery level, the battery light begins blinking rapidly.• Off: The battery is fully charged.

(4) Hard drive light • Blinking white: The hard drive is being accessed. • Amber: HP 3D DriveGuard has temporarily parked the hard drive.

3. Type > your username(s and student number)

4. Type > your password

Always shut down your laptop prior to placing in your laptop bag.

1. Click > Window icon

2. Click > Shut down icon

3. Wait for laptop to completely shut down before closing laptop lid.

NOTE: Never turn off the laptop by using the power key unless instructed by a teacher to do so.

Shut down Closes all windows and programs and turns off the laptop. Any unsaved files will be lost.

Switch User Switch users without closing programs.

Logoff Closes all programs and user is logged out as the user of the laptop.

LockLocks the computer with the current user logged in. All programs and files will remain open. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and enter password of current user to continue to use the laptop.

RestartCloses all windows and programs, turns off the laptop, and then restarts it automatically. Any unsaved files will be lost.

SleepKeeps your session in memory and puts the computer in a low-power state so that you can quickly resume working.

HibernateSaves your session and turns off the computer. When you turn on your computer, Windows restores your session.

Keep the laptop away from dirt, dust, foods, liquids, and temperature extremes when at all possible. Cleaning the keyboard and floppy drive are small items, but can enhance the operation of the equipment. Supplies: soft clean cloth, canned air.

CLEANING PRODUCTSUse the following products to safely clean and disinfect your computer:

● Dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride 0.3 percent maximum concentration (For example: germicidal disposable wipes. These wipes come in a variety of brand names.)

● Alcohol-free glass cleaning fluid

● Water with mild soap solution

● Dry microfiber cleaning cloth or a chamois (static-free cloth without oil)

● Static-free cloth wipes

CLEANING PROCEDURESWARNING! To prevent electric shock or damage to components, do not attempt to clean your computer while it is turned on:

Turn off the computer.Disconnect external power.Disconnect all powered external devices.

CAUTION: Do not spray cleaning agents or liquids directly on any computer surface.Liquids dripped on the surface can permanently damage internal components.

CLEANING THE DISPLAYGently wipe the display using a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with an alcohol-free glass cleaner. Be sure that the display is dry before closing the display.

CLEANING THE SIDES AND COVERTo clean and disinfect the sides and cover, use a soft microfiber cloth or chamois moistened with one of the cleaning solutions listed previously or use an acceptable germicidal disposable wipe.

CLEANING THE TOUCHPAD AND KEYBOARDWARNING! To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to internal components, do not use a vacuum cleaner attachment to clean the keyboard. A vacuum cleaner can deposit household debris on the keyboard surface.

CAUTION: When cleaning the TouchPad and keyboard, do not let liquids drip between the keys. This can permanently damage internal components.

To clean and disinfect the TouchPad and keyboard, use a soft microfiber cloth or chamoismoistened with one of the cleaning solutions listed previously or use an acceptable germicidal disposable wipe.

To prevent keys from sticking and to remove dust, lint, and particles from the keyboard, use a can of compressed air with a straw extension.
