DesignProducts
The Design Products programme, led by designProessor Tord Boontje, recognises that design
is an activity that undamentally shapes theworld and inuences the processes o change.
We aim or our students to nd their own place, rom where they can lead or contribute to theseprocesses. Although there is a ocus on productand urniture design, we do not see anylimitations to our eld, understanding very wellthat most o tomorrows products and services
do not yet exist today. The nature o the courseis pluralistic; we encourage diversity in thinking, opinions and ideologies. There is a vibrantatmosphere that engenders experimental,ground-breaking work, encouraging a criticalapproach and a questioning o acceptedpractices. There are no preerred methods orstyles; we aim or our students to develop theirown voices.
The MA course is a continuum across two years, with rst- and second-year students workingtogether in small study groups called Platorms.
Each Platorm is led by tutors who are activedesign practitioners. While the tutors primary
ocus is the students in their Platorm, theirknowledge and expertise is available to theentire programme and there are opportunitiesor students to have tutorials with other staf.Technical support is provided or model-makingand prototyping, along with access toCollege workshops.
There are oten collaborative projects with
external partners, or example FENDIand Yamaha, and there are also opportunitiesto exhibit in London and elsewhere. The programme ofers a truly internationalperspective, with students coming romaround 20 nations. Graduates go on towork or multinational corporations, designconsultancies, and academic and industrialresearch labs, with many choosing to set uptheir own design studios.
