The Voice 2

Fun facts about the new president are that he does no drink and tries to stay away from those bad influence things. He does not like to shake hands and prefers to give high fives. He gets haircuts from his wife and his is a big wrestling fan. Donald Trump also worked with beauty pageants.

He is married to Melania Trump and is preparing to become the president officially on the 20th of January. Many states voted for Trump. They are listed below. He surprisingly won states like Pennsylvania and Michigan and Ohio and Florida which many people thought were going to Hilary.

The states are listed with their electoral votes: Pennsylvania- 28 South Carolina – 9Alabama- 9 Wisconsin- 10Ohio- 18 Georgia- 16Mississippi-6 Nebraska- 5Texas- 38 Florida- 29Tennessee- 11 Michigan - 16West Virginia- 5 Kansas- 6Kentucky- 8 Iowa- 6Oklahoma-7 North Carolina-9Indiana- 11 Missouri- 10Arkansas- 6 Louisiana- 8Wyoming- 3 Alaska- 3Arizona- 11 Utah- 6Idaho- 4 Montana- 3North Dakota- 3 South Dakota- 3

Thirty of the fifty states voted for Trump, and although he was not the most popular candidate he did still win due to the electoral system. This is the process where there is total of 270 electoral votes that needed to be won in order to become the next President of the United States. The number of votes you get it determined by the population of the state. Electors are in charge of voting for the candidate that the state chooses as a whole. Most states have the President get all the votes from the electors when the majority of people choose them. Only Maine and Nebraska would divide up their votes as needed. In this election, Trump got 306 electoral votes and Hilary only got 232.

While many people, like me, were shocked and very upset about Trump winning, we should try to learn about the new president. We should pray for him to make wise choices and we should hope for the best part of his talents to be used to make us a better Unites States during his time as President. ♫

Movie Review: Trollsby: George Cokinos

Would you like to see an amazing feature film? Do you like parties, adventures, and plain happy singing? This would be a perfect movie for you to see with your family and friends. This movie is all about teaching us how to find our inner happiness and the importance of not letting that go.

Characters in this movie range from the happy troll Poppy who loves to sing and dance a party, to her friend Branch who lost his happiness and does not enjoy doing those things. Branch and Poppy, although very opposite wind up on a huge adventure, to free their friends and change the way the Trolls interact with the Bergens. Bergens are very unhappy large creatures that need to eat trolls to remember how to feel happy. The Bergens hold festivals to eat the trolls and you must watch the crazy adventure to save your favorite friends from becoming a happy treat for the Bergens.

Can the Bergens or Branch find their happiness? Can Poppy save the day? Watch as the main characters interact with many other trolls and creatures in the forest, and sing and dance along to a great movie of the year. ♫

Kidz Bopby: Lara Trears

Kidz Bop is a set of CDs or records that have popular songs that are not performed by the regular singers. They are performed by children like us. The songs come from the Billboard Hot 100 list and are mostly heard on the radio a lot. They make the lyrics, which are the words of the song, better and friendlier for kids.

Right now there are 33 albums, with the 34th album coming out this January. They have sold more than 16 million albums and the kids who sing the songs are chosen by auditions. This fun album making started in 2001.

Kidz Bop has become really popular and kids all over are going to see performances on the Kidz Bop Tours. Kids also watch their music videos and listen to their songs in popular places. Legoland uses the Kidz Bop albums at their theme parks. Kidz Bop has a radio show and a website. Maybe we can all be Kidz Bop stars one day. ♫

Unicornsby: Sophia Hammond

Unicorns are legendary animals that are described as a horse like creature with a single pointy horn coming from the top of its forehead. Scientists believe that unicorns never existed because they cannot find a fossil. Do you think that is proof that they are not real? We do see some evidence of animals like unicorns though. In cave drawings in Lascaux, France, the animal is shown on the wall images in the cave. The images are usually stories or pieces of history in many different countries.

Unicorns are described in so many ways. They are usually white, the color of purity and have a white or a gold horn. A long time ago, different stories said the unicorn was smaller like the size of a donkey or a goat. Some stories describe it as having the head of a deer, a horse body, a lion tail, and a goat beard and hooves. It was considered to be a magical symbol of faith and purity. People said it was untamable and very fast and strong. These mystical creatures were thought to have magical powers. A unicorn would be able to pierce a liar in the heart. Unicorns like pure people and it was thought that only people as pure as Mary would be able to catch or see the creatures. Some stories think that unicorns became extinct when Noah forgot to bring them on the ark during the Great Flood.

Many famous people like Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Marco Polo studied unicorns and unicorn like creatures and even report seeing them. Today we still see unicorns in our fairytale stories and love to watch them on television shows. Unicorns could be magical and still waiting to be found. ♫

Science Monthly: Catsby: Bonnie McMahon

Cats are furry mammals. They live in house with people as pets. You should get a cat as a pet.

Cats have a lot of fur to keep them warm. They have a really good sense of smell and can see in the dark. They have a very strong body which is why they land on their feet when they jump or fall. They have great balance.

Cats do a lot of things. They can do tricks, but they usually do not. Cats use their claws to climb and can even when they are big cats in the wild. Cats can lick themselves a lot. This gets them clean so they do not need to take a bath. Cats also sleep a lot too. They sleep for 18 hours a day, which is most of the day.

Cats eat meat. They are carnivores. In the wild, they hunt for things like birds and mice. Cats tell people what they want or need when they use their sounds or tails. When they hiss, you should not bother them. Cats are mad. When they growl, cats want you to stay away from them. Cats meow when they need something or want attention. They want food or want to be pet too. When they make a yowl sound, they want attention too. This can be when they are hurt also. When cats move their tails from side to side it can mean that they are happy or mad. Cats can tell you how they feel with their ears too. If their ears are down, they are sad or scared. Cats will purr when they are very happy.

There are about 80 different kinds of cats. Cats have lived with people for over 9000 years. A long time ago, people thought cats were really special and treated them like princes. You can see that in old Egypt because they have a lot of statues of cats.

Get a cat at home to play with. They are AWESOME. ♫

Science Monthly: Dogsby: Amelia Wiley

Dogs are fun mammals that people have as pets. Dogs are furry, fluffy, and really cute. Dogs are in the same family as wolves and coyotes, and jackals. They are very family like animals and that is why they would stay together in a pack in the wild.

Dogs come in many shapes and sizes. Some dogs can be really small and some can be really big, even bigger than you when they stand up. Dogs can hear twice more sounds than humans. They are able to hear noises that we cannot. Dogs have tails that they wag when they are happy. When they tuck their tail between the legs, they are scared.

Dogs are meat eaters. They are carnivores. Dogs also love attention. They love to be pet and lick people. Licking people also makes them very happy. They have a big sense of smell and really like to explore the environment. They have 220 million scent cells.

Dogs can do lots of tricks and learn how to do things. They get trained. Dogs learn tricks like sit, stay and shake. People sometimes train their dogs to be in shows and do even cooler tricks.

Dogs are also really important animals because they do work. Dogs can keep sheep and cows from running away. Dogs can also be hunters or guard houses. Some dogs even pull sleds in cold places to help people get things around. Service dogs can help blind people walk around safely in the world. Therapy dogs help people with disabilities. Dogs can also do racing or sledding competitions and shows. These shows have people judge the dog based on their appearance and tricks they do.

Dogs can live from fourteen to fifteen years. You should get a dog for an awesome and a helpful pet. ♫

Movie Review: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeerby: Siena DiNardo

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is a popular Christmas movie. It came out in 1993 and it is shown during the winter as we get ready for the holidays.

There are a lot of characters like Clarice, Santa, the Abominable Snowman and the elf who just wants to be a dentist, and of course the star of the movie Rudolph. As you know from the popular song, all the other reindeer call Rudolph names and make fun of him. This story follows many different adventures that Rudolph takes. Can he save his mom and dad from the Abominable Snowman? Can he save Clarice? Rudolph and his friends go and try to save the day, but can they? Will Rudolph ever get to help Santa with his sleigh ride?

This fun movie is a really great story to watch at Christmas time. Sit your family down and enjoy the best reindeer adventure.

I asked students if they have seen the movie and wanted them to express what they thought about it. Lamont in Prek4 likes the movie and said that it teaches you that you do not have to fit in to be a star. Logan in first grade never saw the movie, but thinks he would really like it. He likes Rudolph and thinks it is important to not make fun of other people. Paloma in first grade also agreed with Logan. Cameron in Kindergarten said he really likes Rudolph and Santa. ♫

Robotsby: Dempsey Saint-Onge

Why are robots created? Do we need them? Military robots are controlled robots that would fight or shoot missiles. They are used to spy or watch things and help with valuable information. Sword robots are used in ground based combat.

A group of robots called collaborative robots work with people. Collaborative robots help people perform different tasks. These robots are the ones that many people think will be in everyone’s home in the future. They can do lots of different things.

Space robots or space probes look for alien life on planets that are not the earth. Different kinds of these robots fly or walk around on the space land and have cameras on them to capture footage of what is happening on these other planets. These might also help with military work too.

Mining robots help go into the ground to get to coal and ore. This saves people from being in dangerous places. School and other kinds of robots help solve problems or work with or alongside the teachers in many schools. You may see a lot of them in science or math advanced classes.

Robots have many positive things to them. They can help people do jobs that seem impossible or save lives in combat, but robots also have lots of problems. Robots are NOT people. They do not have brains or feelings and people may depend on them too much and replace humans with robots. People actually lose jobs to robots also. Robots take the place of jobs that people used to do and that puts a lot of people in a sad place and has to have them look for new work. Robots are also computers. They can be hacked or controlled and should not always be considered so safe to hold information.

Be careful with your technology. Do you like robots? ♫

Musical Review: Gypsyby: Anneliese Svennevik

Gypsy is a 1959 musical based on a book by Arthur Laurents. It is also a little bit based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee and her mother Rose who raises the daughters in the spotlight. Is it easy growing up with the bright lights?

Mama Rose wants her daughters to succeed in the world of fame. June, which is Gypsy’s younger and more talented pretty sister goes to Broadway through vaudeville. June gets tired of her dreams and her life being controlled by her mother and runs off and gets married. Now Mama Rose focuses her attention on Louise, her older and less talented daughter. Louise is also less willing to try and be a star. This musical followed Gypsy’s story rising up to be a burlesque queen and the play is really about how focused and driven the characters are to succeed. How does Rose feel when her kids succeed?

The best part of the entire musical is of course the musical performances. Songs like Everything’s Coming up Roses, Together (Wherever We Go), Small World, You Gotta Get a Gimmick, Let Me Entertain You, and many more make this book musical really fun to watch.

In the beginning, we watch how the children try to escape from their mother and her dreams for them. We watch their struggle and their mother pushing them to be famous. We later watch the mother herself struggled when she realizes that she loses her daughters after they became famous. She only cared about her own dreams. The ending has been changed over time from the original. It gives us a happier ending, but you should go check out the play and see some awesome music and strong characters. ♫

All Down to Game 7: World Seriesby: J.P. Yeo

This baseball season many people followed the matchup between the Chicago Cubs, who had not made the series in so long, and the Cleveland Indians who did in fact experience a more recent win. This game series was so intense and brought itself all the way to a fun game 7.

In Game 1 of the series, Cleveland dominated the game winning 6-0. Chicago quickly followed with a win in Game 2, scoring 5 runs to Cleveland’s 1 run. Game 3 gave Cleveland a win with just 1 run and Chicago again had another no scoring game. The Cleveland Indians also won Game 4 with a 7 to 2 final score. The series began to look like Cleveland was going to take it all as they only needed 4 wins because the World Series is a best of 7 game set. After Game 4, the series was 3 to 1 and Chicago needed the next 3 wins in a row to win the series.

Chicago came ready to play and won Game 5 with a 3 to 2 score and then again won Game 6 with a 9 to 3 score. Chicago managed to tie up the series 3 wins to 3 wins. This crazy and awesome playing by both teams brought us to the epic game 7 in the series that determine the winner of it all.

The Indians were at home with Kluber pitching for them. The Cubs, not having the home field advantage had Hendricks pitching for them. Fowler led the game with a nice homerun for Chicago. Ross, from the Cubs hit another home run to make the game a 6 to 3 game, making up for the error he made earlier to help the Indians score those two runs.

CFL: Canadian Football Leagueby: Scott Speaker

Most people in the world have heard of the NFL (National Football League), but have you ever heard of the CFL; the Canadian Football League? While football is very popular in our country, it is also popular in other countries too. It is very similar to the NFL, but there are still some key differences.

The NFL has 32 teams which compete in 8 different divisions. The divisions are divided up into 4 teams a piece and the divisions are split into the NFC and AFC. The CFL only has 9 teams which are divided to play each other equally. In the NFL, some teams may not play each other for a few years at a time, while in the CFL the teams play each other all the time.

The CFL field is 110 yards by 65 ft while the NFL field is only 100 yards by 50 feet. The end zones in the NFL are also deeper. Goals posts are at the front of the end zone in the CFL and are in the back of the end zone in the NFL. There are only 3 downs for 10 yards in the CFL, while in the NFL there are 4 downs. It seems like it would be harder to score in the CFL.

The CFL holds a SuperBowl just like the NFL does. The CFL’s Super Bowl just happened, and the Ottawa RedBlacks beat the Calgary Stampeders. You should really check out the CFL, it might be a new fun an easy sport to follow.

This league only has 18 games per season. Each of the conferences holds tournaments based on standings to get into the grey cup. The Calgary Stampeders, BC Lions, Edmonton Eskimos, Sascatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers are all in the west conference. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Toronto Argonauts, and the Ottawa RedBlacks are all in the east conference. Check out these teams and their players and pick up this new sport to follow next season. ♫
