THE STANDARD STUDENT POINTS SYSTEM

TO BE READ AND UNDERSTOOD BY ALL STUDENTS

In HCOB 21 Sept. 1970R, Revised 19 Mar. 1991, Study Series lR, STUDY DEFINITIONS, LRHdefines the Point System as follows:

"POINTS: The arbitrary assignment of a credit value to a part ofstudy materials. 'One pageequals 1 point.' 'That drill is worth 25 points.'

"POINT SYSTEM: The system of assigning and counting up points for studies and driIIs thatgive the progress of a student and measure his speed ofstudy. They are kept track of by the studentand Course Administrator and added up eacb week as tbe student's statistic. The statistic of thecourse is the combined study points of the class."

The Standard Student Points system has been revised to incorporate the use of Standard Tech drills, the Auditor Certainty Courses and the Study Tech Certainty Course and to include drills issued since.

This issue also clarifies exactly when a student counts the penalty for being overdue on course andsupplies a standardized daily report form that shows how to calculate Student Points for the day, including penalty points.

Byaccurately ..computing. the points, Academy students honestly reflect their progress made oncourse and Supervisors will rapidly detect those in need ofhelp. It will also rapidly alert executives incase of out-tech so rapid corrective remedies are applied to keep Scientology working.

The Standard Student Points system is presented here for use on courses delivered in Divisions 4and 5. (The exception. is the Hubbard Key to Life Course for which the student points system has beenseparately issued. Ref: Scientology Policy Directive of 6 May 90R, KEY TO LIFE STUDENT POINTSSYSTEM)

Student Points are not counted for courses delivered in the Public Divisions in Class V orgs andCelebrity Centres. Such courses do not require the student or Supervisor to keep track df Student Points, and the statistic of Student Points is not a Public Divisions" statistic.

However, in Sea Org orgs, Div 6 courses such as the STCC are delivered in Div 4 course roomsand points may be counted. Additionally, staff members may count points when doingDiv 6 courses ifthey are on their TIPs.

Student Points may only be counted if the student is doing a standard checksheet, which includesan authorized co-auditing checksheet or authorized co-auditing actions under standard supervision. Thisincludes doing a retread, retrain or pink sheet in the course room on a checksheet. It does not include acram.

The Student Points are counted as follows:

DEMONSTRATION

Demo:

Done as a checksheet requirement

Demo originated by the student

Clay Demo:

Done as a checksheet requirement

Clay Demo originated by the student

Note: Points are only credited if done precisely per HCOB 11 Oct. 67,CLAY TABLE TRAINING and HCOB 10 Dec. 70RAI,CLAYTABLEWORK IN TRAINING.

If a checksheet item requires more than one clay demo, then points aretaken for each individual clay demo that is made. However, within theindividual clay demo itself, the number of clay figures or scenes or partsused to make that clay demo do not determine the number of pointscounted, which is always: 50 points for each complete clay demo of aspecific term, an idea, action, clause of a code, principle, etc.

Example: A student has a checksheet item which requires the term"two-way commIt to be demonstrated in clay. The student does this inone large clay demo with several parts. When passed, this demo wouldcount as one clay demo worth 50 points regardless of how many figuresor parts made from clay are used to demonstrate the term.

Example: A student has a checksheet item which requires the Auditor'sCode to be demonstrated in clay. The student demonstrates and is passedon ten separate clauses of the Auditor's Code in one study period. Eachseparate clause demonstrated counts as one clay demo worth 50 points, giving a total of 500 points earned. (10 x 50 =500)

Clay Demo on full hats andOEC Volumes requiring a very large clay (suchas the end of a section in an DEC Volume, fmal clay on full hats or OEC,clay demo "an ideal org" or "a standard course room and all its parts", etc.)

Once graduated, theycan continue to co-audit, whether they route onto their next courseor not. The students may take points for the co-auditing whether theyare still on the course or not.)

PENALTIES

For any student (staff or public) who is overdue on his course perchecksheet time

This penalty is deducted by the student when he calculates his studentpoints at the end of the day, and this total is what is counted by theSupervisor.

A student is overdue ifhe has gone past the targeted completion date ofthe course. The completion date is set by the Supervisor and is based onthe length of the course as stated on the student's checksheet.

A Day org schedule is 5 days a week, 8 hours a day minimum.

A standard Foundation schedule is 5 nights per week, 3 hours pernight or Saturday and Sunday, 8 hours per day.

"Full time" stated on a checksheet means 40 hours of study a week, equivalent to a standard Day org schedule.

Therefore, if a student in a Day org routes onto a 5-day course anddoes not complete within 5 days (excluding weekends), he is overdue,no matter how many hours he actually attended the course.

For a student on a Foundation evening or weekend schedule, thechecksheet target is set according to the equivalent number of hours:a student studying evenings is required to complete a 5-day full-time'course in 2 1/2 weeks.

A student may not be targeted to complete a course against a nonstandard schedule.

Students are to arrange their lives and adhere to the standard schedulefor the duration of their course and the Supervisor and D of T are tosee this is done.

Study time for staff is covered in HCO PL 2 Aug. 1971 I, STUDYTIME and is notapplicable to public who are to follow the abovestandard schedule.

For any student who is absent without prior authorization in any givenweek more than two study days for full time, Day or evening Foundationschedules or one day for the weekend Foundation schedule, includingthose routed to Ethics or Qual who are not actually being handled andwho are not on course studying, per HCO PL 7 Mar. 72 IT, COURSESUPERVISORS

Note: This penalty is deducted from the statistic of the Supervisor andthe department.

BONUS POINTS FOR COURSE COMPLETION

Bonus for completing a minor or specialist course

Bonus for completing a major course

Bonus for completing the Solo Course

(HCOB 14 June 1977RB, PAID COMPLETIONS SIMPLIFIED, defineswhat a minor, specialist and major course are.)

This bonus is DOUBLED if the student completes inchecksheet time ascovered in the above section on scheduling.

STUDENT DAILY REPORTS

-3000 points

1000 points

2000 points

3000 points

Each student keeps a record of his points as he goes along throughout the study period on the"Standard StudentPoints Daily Report Form". A copy of the form is attached to this issue and is to bemimeoed in bulk for use by the students. Students are to have a copy of this report form to hand whileon study. It makes it very simple then to keep track of and calculate the Student Points accurately.

After course, the student posts his points for the day on the stat board as per HCO PL 18 July 71I, STATS AND PROGRESS BOARD.

A Supervisor should keep in mind that his product is a graduate from his course who knows andcan successfully apply the subject he was taught. Student Points measure only quantity. The record ofthe individual student measures quality. The exchange value of the student after a course (not his fee)measures viability. (Ref: HCO PL 16 Mar. 72 V, WHAT IS A COURSE HIGH CRIME)
