Over the past few years, UT has competed in tournaments in Chapel Hill, Kennesaw, Kissimmee, Tuscaloosa, Chattanooga and Fresno to name a few. This year, UT will visit Charlotte and Clearwater, Fla., in its pre-conference schedule. The Rocket softball program has won the second- most regular-season titles (three) in Mid-American Conference history. UT is also one of four schools to appear in the College World Series, advancing to the 1989 tournament in Sunnyvale, CA. The Rockets earned their way by winning 23 of their last 25 games and posting a 27-4 league mark, the best in school history. In addition, UT notched 11 shutouts, including a no- hitter and a perfect game along the way and posted its second-most victories ever (39). All those accolades earned the Rockets a ranking of 18th in the nation and a No. 16 seed entering the NCAA Tournament. NCAA/College Softball World Series Success Toledo (44-23) captured its first Mid-Amer- ican Conference regular-season title with a 16-2 league mark under head coach Cheryl Spran- gel. The conference championship was also the first by a UT women’s program. Tami Johnston posted a 26-8 win-loss mark and led the MAC with an amazing 0.24 ERA and also registered a conference-best 262 strikeouts in 232.2 innings pitched. The Rockets finished as the runner-up in the MAC Tournament after losing a pair of nine-inning games to eventual champion Central Michigan by 1-0 and 8-7 margins. Toledo (36-25) advanced to the College World Series for the first time in school history after winning its second MAC regular-season title. The Rockets posted a 22-6 league mark under head coach Cheryl Sprangel and defeated Big Ten champion Iowa, 1-0, along with 8-2 and 3-1 triumphs over Creighton. Leigh Ross led the Rockets offensively with a .370 batting average to finish second in the MAC. Rhonda King led the MAC with a school-record 42 RBI. Patty Barrett earned All-MAC honors with a 14-11 overall win- loss mark (11-2 in league play) and a 1.19 ERA. Toledo (39-22) posted the second-best win- ning percentage (.639) in school history en route to capturing its third MAC title and making its sec- ond NCAA Tournament appearance. The Rockets posted a 27-4 MAC mark to win the league title by seven games. UT headed to the West Coast for the NCAA regionals and bowed out with a 2-0 loss to Long Beach State and a 1-0 setback to Cal State-Fullerton. Christin Chadwick posted a 25-10 record and a 1.13 ERA to lead the Rockets on the mound and Sherri Magnuson led the team with a .331 batting average. Head coach Cheryl Sprangel was named MAC Coach of the Year for a third time.

Rocket Travels
