The weather is traditionallyh o t a n d h u m i d f o r t h i s a f f a i r ,b u t t h i s y e a r r u n n e r s g o tsomewhat of a break, as the 9a.m. start and some good timing kept runners out of thebrutal heat that moved in justa day or two later. Race cond i t i o n s w e r e n o t a t a l l b a d ,with temperatures in the low80's and there was plenty ofwater along the way.

Dan Dwyer of Centerville,Ohio, led the charges andwon unchallenged, coppingtop honors among the men ina fine t ime o f 41 :54 , and wasfo l lowed by Peekski l l 's KenP f a f f , w h o c r o s s e d t h e fi n i s hline - on the high school track- over a minute and a half beh i n d t h e w i n n e r w i t h a t i m eo f 43 :32 . Hector Vargas o fBrooklyn was third in 44:04.
