Behaviour Expectations We have assessed our current behaviour data for this term with our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) committee. It has come to our attention that a number of physical incidents have occurred over the past 6 weeks. We identified 20 documented incidents of physical misconduct as defined by policy. Physical misconduct may be mild or substantial in nature but in any case, there is never a productive or acceptable solution in life where we use inappropriate physical conduct or contact to solve issues. We teach appropriate behaviours as part of our school PBL program to each and every student across the school. This lesson is generally carried out in classrooms by our teaching staff and usually responds to current data trends. It may include classroom behaviour strategies, lessons on how we travel through the school and so on.

I wish to advise where serious physical misconduct occurs we will suspend students regardless of their role in the incident. This is because if everyone handled disagreements by physically contacting others then we would have a terrible and highly dangerous school environment. Similarly, as adults if we engage in this behaviour then this can lead to significant legal implications for individuals. Equally sad, is the obvious issues we experience in society with regard to domestic violence and I’m sure you will agree once again that physical interactions in this case are dreadfully sad and an inappropriate way to deal with any issue. It is important that we rule out violence solving violence in the minds of our children. We need to give children strategies to move away from issues, to resolve issues amicably and to seek the assistance of staff who supervise these areas. I would ask for your assistance in this matter in speaking with your children about the ways we can productively solve issues that do not involve violence. All too often from children I hear “My parent told me to hit back if I get hit”. Whilst I cannot tell you how to parent your child and nor is that my role, I would make the point that this strategy will not serve children well as they head into adulthood. The societal law is simple in that behaving like this constitutes in most cases assault. It is so important that we help and support our children to understand that as the Peak Crossing School Family we don’t support that behaviour but equally we will support you to learn new ways of problem solving! I sincerely love our school and the children that are here! I dream a bright future for them all, a future where we have collectively inspired and encouraged our children in such a way that we equip them with the greatest of skills to manage the complexities of life. War Memorial I have had some feedback from community members that some children are playing after school at the War Memorial across the road. Understandably there is a level of distress about this as it is a pretty sacred place we use to remember those who have fallen for us and those who currently serve. I would ask that students do not play in this area.

Arrangements for Entering School Regarding new COVID Directions (From the Director General’s Desk) As you would be aware, yesterday the Premier announced that, thanks to the efforts of people in the affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) and the efforts of those who adhered to home quarantine requirements, from 4pm Friday 20 August there will be an easing of restrictions. For schools across the 11 South East Queensland LGAs, the easing of restrictions means that we will once again welcome parents/carers, visitors and external providers back onto our school sites, and community and school sport will resume. I would ask that as we enter the school grounds again, parents use the Check in QLD app and the codes supplied at the front of the school. It is imperative that social distancing rules are adhered to as advised by the Chief Health Officer.

.

Classroom Awards Congratulations to the following students who achieved a classroom award this week. No assembly due to COVID restrictions Awards will be announced in the next Newsletter.

Josh Arnold

It is with great excitement that we are informing you of an opportunity we are engaging in, to give our students a memorable music experience. We have engaged singer and songwriter Josh Arnold to work with students and produce a school song and film clip on Monday 23rd, Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th August. Music is a key component of the arts curriculum that we are required to provide to our students. Delivery through this experience, allows us to incorporate music into our curriculum in a meaningful and engaging way. Josh Arnold is a song writer, performer, music producer and film director with more than 20 years of industry experience from winning a Golden Guitar to having his music placed on TV programs around the world and played nationally on radio stations across Australia.

Josh continues to produce his own music while working with Schools, Communities, and various organisations to create original songs and music videos for his production company Small Town Culture. Josh will be working with a core group of students to produce lyrics that encapsulate the essence of Peak Crossing State School and the fabulous lifestyle we have. All other students, will have the opportunity to learn the song, then perform it and be part of the film clip. We are envisioning this to be ready by the 150th celebrations so it can be on show throughout the day.

Year 5 News Update

Gibb Farm Adventure

Today the Grade Five class went to Gibb’s Farm. Here’s how it went:

We left at nine o’clock this morning to go on our Gibb Farm adventure! When we arrived first

a boy named Harry, told us some information about the farm.

Next, Scott arrived. He is the

Federal Minister for our area. Scott took

some photos of us in the crops with his

really

cool camera.

After that we walked for a very, very, very,

very long walk. We had to go down a big

hill,

then back up the hill. It was quite a

struggle!

Everyone got tired!

Next, we looked at the celery. The pickers

picked the celery, then cut the top off so it

was only the heart of the celery left. After

that, they put it in a BIG machine and then the

big tractor carried it away.

After that we walked more and went to the lettuce area. It was done pretty much the exact

same way as the celery was done.

Then we went to the shed and ate our morning tea and went to the toilet. We did that for about

fifteen minutes.

Next, we went inside the shed. We saw the cold room and it was FREEZING! Then we saw

how the celery was packaged. They put it in a machine that cleaned the celery and put it

through a vent type thing. A girl was making sure the stalks were safe. Then we tried some

celery. It was DISGUSTING!

Finally, we went and watched the

seedlings be planted across the

road, a machine went past and put the

seedlings in. Then we walked

back to

school.

I loved our adventure at the

Gibb’s

Farm.

Gibb Farm

Today we went to Gibb’s Farm. Firstly, when we got there, we took a picture of everyone

around the celery. We got introduced to Tony Gibb and his son Harry. They talked about what

we would see for example, celery.

Next, we walked to the celery area where they picked the celery out of the ground and chopped

off everything but the heart. After the heart was cut off it went to a lady in the back.

After that we went over to the

Iceberg lettuce. We watched the

lettuce get picked out of the ground and

being packaged up. We got to try some

of it too. It didn’t have much flavour.

Then we walked past the Womboks to go

to morning tea outside the shed. The

first thing you see when you go inside is

all the vegetables packed up. To your left

was the cold room where they had other

where they package the celery. They

wash the celery thoroughly and it gets

sent to the blue room to be checked and

chopped. Then it was sent out to other ladies who double checked it.

Lastly, we went across the road to see how the tiny plants were planted. They put it in a

machine on the back of the tractor and it comes out the bottom into the soil. Lastly it gets

fertilised. That’s how we ended our excursion.

Gibb Farm Tour

Today at 9am, the Year 5 class went to the Gibb Farm with Mrs McMahon, Mrs Stokan and

Chef Chris. The first thing we did was meet Harry. He is Mr Gibb’s son. We all went to the

growing celery and we took a photo. We had a photographer with Mr Bucholz.

Then we went walking to the big celery paddock.

We watched them pick the crunchy, juicy, green celery.

Then in groups we went to see the Iceberg lettuce.

They went really fast and they boxed them up. After

That we went to have smoko. We went into the big

Shed and tasted some celery. We also saw kale, celery,

Iceberg lettuce and wombok.

Then we walked home back to school. It was a fun day

but a lot of people were tired from all the walking.
