Robert E. Peary High School is located in thecity of Rockville, Maryland, approximatelyfifteen miles north of the Nation's Capital, and ispart of the expanding Montgomery Countyschool system. There is nothing more difficult totake in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more
uncertain in its success than to take the lead in
the introduction of a new order of things' We are
guided in our pursuit of excellence by a
committed and competent administration, faculty, and staff .
As a student body of over 1800 students we
are seeking to establish effective human
relationships for democratic living as they applyin the family, in the school, in the cornmunity, and in the world we are about to inherit' We
participate in and accept the responsibilities and
appreciation of the privileges inherent in theAmerican way of life.
The future is a world unlimited by ourselves; in
it we discover not only what concerns us, butsometimes by chance, what interests those whomwe love.
It is our hope that the future generations whowill come to Robert E. Peary High School willcontinue to achieve, will continue to have pride inthe perpetuation of the traditions that are so
much a part of life here at PearY'

On March 27, 28, and 29, the Robert E. Peary
Drama Club presented Archibald MacLeish's "J.8."to the school and community. lt was directed by Mr.Vincent G. Gibbs, who also played a leading role inthe play.
J.B. portrays the story of a perfect and uprightman who is made to suffer at the hand of his God.
The opening circus scene was not in the originalscript of the play. lt was created by the players them-selves.
Fine performances by members of the cast and
crew made J.B. a big success,
Ringmaster, Marc Gottlieb, announces the circus scene
Two messengers relate to J.B. and Sarah the tragic death of their eldest son'Clown, Alan Dudley, entertains the audience.

TO THE SEVENTH GRADUATING CLASS
AsyougoforwardWithspiritandcommitmentyoudosobaseduponyourformativeyearsofthe so's and 60's. They have been years of misunderstanding, of forced decisions, of action; and
man has confronted himself and meaning as never before. lt is as though developments in
knowledge and communication have failed mankind, but it would be more accurate 1s 51619 that
man has not learned how to utilize fully these advantages. Hopefully, the commitments of young
men and women will help to resolve this paradox'
lnthe50,s,manyyoungpeopleworriedaboultheatomandhydrogenbombsandsubscribedto the philosophy that there was no need to commit oneself or strive for perfection because a
pushed button would destroy mankind.
students graduating today view this philosophy as pass6 and realize that "big" bombs are only
one way to annihilate the human race. Most realize that loss of trust and faith in one another'
destruction of plants, over-population, and pollution of air and water are also forms of
annihilation. Most realize that something must be done to cope with these imbalances, and most
are willing to try. This spirit of willingness fosters commitment and mankind moves forward for good or evil as
commitments challenge commitments. A commitment is a pledge, it is a trust and a faith that
certain accomplishments will be undertaken and the full measure of effort will be expended in
the quest. commitments may be singular or universal, commitments may end with the originator
or others may carry them forward, commitments long since forgotten may be revitalized by
additional knowledge iust as wisdom may become more profound through experience
commitments which are earth shaking are often destroyed, but commitments which are the
prodding of a man,s life, the breath of his being, are contagious, although not without limits.
Commitments are adversity's antagonist, commitments are goals in infinity, commitments are the
man. our school honors a man who personified commitment; his successes resulted from his
intellect, careful planning, persistence, and the knowledge that degrees of failure are encountered
and overcome in any great or noble undertaking. our continued emulation of these
characteristics produces that irrepressible restlessness which enhances our unique student body
and faculty. The class of 1969 has tremendous "spirit." spirit arises from interest, is enhanced by concern,
breathes when there is purpose, and is resolute when there is understanding.
May your spirit enable you to live with laws within a world which appears lawless; may Your
spirit enable you to maintain individual privacy at the same time we are rapidly becoming a
nonprivate world; may your spirit enable you to learn
the universal laws of nature at the same time individuals
anl Oolernlental bodies want to negate their existence:
and may your spirit enable you to develop human
relationships so that you are able to experience the
reality of each situation and to act in a manner
consistent with your goals.
On behalf of the Faculty, Staff, and the Studeni
Body which follows you, I thank you, the Class of
1969, the "Class with Spirit," for what you have done
for our school and express to you best wishes for the
tu tu re.

Three elective courses are available to students

Co-Captain Bill Bedenbaugh breaks up the opposition, soffensive drive downf ield.
Led by Captains John Ellinger (Senior) and BillBedenbaugh (Junior), Peary's Varsity Soccer Teamcompiled a 3-4-3 record in a very tough and muchimproved Montgomery County AA Soccer League.Starting the season with high hopes, the Huskies wereearly hampered by injuries and erratic playingalthough their desire never lagged and the:r teamspirit remained high.
The standout game of the season occurred whenthe team beat league-leading and undefeated, untiedMontgomery Blair by a score of 2-0. The tremendousplaying of the team as a whole and particularly byFullback George Lantzas and Halfbacks AlLuckenbach and Dave Daughters, who scored thegoals, enabled the Huskies to pull off this upset. Thedefensive lineup of the team was a particularly brightspot as they allowed Peary's opponents to score only11 points. Other starting players who wereoutstanding each in his own way were Junior, KentThomas, and Seniors, Gurney DeAtley, CamCaldwell, Mike Sweeney, Don Yelton, Barry Greene, and Marc Gottlieb.

And we begin to fear because it isgetting much closer and it is comingour way. Finally, almost by accident,we seem to find a piece that completesour puzzle. Maybe it is a friend whomwe trust or an idea that fills us withinspiration or the many good times weshared with someone special.
Nevertheless, we are thankful thatwe were sheltered since we weren'tquite ready to leave. We begin to havemisgivings about leaving. We seriouslyconsider not going, not stepping outinto the stream of things. lnstead, wethink of just messing around and notdoing too much. Yet, something hap-pens. Maybe it is spring when we missso much school and have such a goodtime just being alive.
Or maybe it is the end of the yearwhen we all laugh and joke a lot. ltmight be the times we couldn't studyor read. We just sit around and talk a
lot; or walk around and think aboutthings. At any rate, we lose ourmisgivings and find sheer joy in this lifeof ours.

For a few fleeting moments we wonder when. But itis today, this very moment, now. We stand up and lookaround us and see that it is our bag now and we knowthat we cannot stall any longer. So we fill our lungswith seasoned life and step out of the door, for win orlose now, u/e must choose.
