DAMN YANKEES
Start with a group of eager, talented high school students and long hours of rehearsals.
Add hard-working directors, stage crews, and scenery painters, and mix well.
Blend in music from the pit band, the help of the make-up crew, lighting and sound, a devil and a temptress, and a frustrated baseball player.
Bake in a hot oven until bubbling over, and top with a lucky star.
Now ...
SERVE TO AN APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCE,

STUDENT EXCHANGE DOUBLES
Fernando Sanchez
I was very happy when I found that I had been chosen as the 1966-67 exchange student from Bogota, Columbia. However, I was a lithe disappointed when I was told that I was coming to Patchogue; I had hoped I would be sent to a larger city where I could learn many different customs. But once I set foot in Patchogue, my outlook changed. I was first impressed by the trees and streets. I felt right at home because the living pace in Patchogue is about the same speed as it is in Colombia.
I liked the Patchogue High School building because it's so modern. Changing classes was very confusing; in the hall I was pushed and shoved in all directions. I was rather disappointed about the student-teacher relationship in America. In my country, the students and teachers are much friendlier. But the relationship between the American adults and young people is much better than it is in Colom-bia. Here the older generation trusts the younger genera-tion much more.
The most wonderful thing about the United States is the people. Everyone was much friendlier than I thought they would be. I really liked the American girls. The best thing about them is that they all know how to cook. I liked American food, but prefer Colombian food.
I have benefited greatly from the exchange program. It was great spending two months in America, and I am only sorry that I could not stay longer.

When I. arrived at the airport in Colombia, I was greeted by my foster family, the Rodriguers. Because I had been awake for 34 hours, they hustled me home for some rest.
That evening, I was introduced to my first fiesta. A fiesta generally lasts until 4 o'clock in the morning or later. During the fiesta, the Colombians danced about five traditional dances, but they prefer the "frug" and "mon-key."
Colombian schools are primarily private: boys, girls, American, Ger-man, or English schools. The day lasts from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a two hour siesta for lunch. Most of the social life, therefore, is restricted to out-of-school organizations.
Colombians enjoy going to a "club", a special teenage discotheque sponsored by the city government. Parents often go along. After my "father" has served as a senator the whole day, my "mother" has finished her household chores, they enjoy get-ting out. The bands at the "clubs" play songs especially for the parents, but speed them up near the end to watch them "monkey" and "frug".
In most aspects people around the world are just like Americans. It was through the exchange program that I was able to see this.
GIRLS GO, TOO!

Juanita Felice
It was my privilege to be chosen as the girl exchange student from Patchogue High School. During the summer, I spent two mem-orable months in the small Colombian town of Pereira with a family of 14—the Grandas. Though a great deal of my time was spent in attending school, I had many opportunities to see the sights of Colombia. I also had a chance to enjoy the warm climate, since I spent most of my Saturdays either at the coffee plantation owned by my Colombian father, or at the summer home of his mother.
Several Colombian customs were peculiar to me. One was the strict rule on girl's dress: girls never wear slacks on a Colombian street. The food was much starchier than American food and took considerable "getting used to." Dating was done primarily in groups. The boys were very courteous; they shook hands to say hello and goodbye, took a girl's arm between dances, and even helped her to cross the street.
I found too, that Colombian students ap-preciate education more than American stu-dents because it is harder to obtain. Their school system is less modern than ours. How-ever, Colombians are very aware of world problems and seem anxious to contribute to their solution.
The exchange program gave me an oppor-tunity to broaden my outlook on the world and to become friends with a wonderful group of people.
As exchange student from Rosario, Ar-gentina, I was living with the Felice family for about six months. While I was here
I attended Patchogue High School. This was a wonderful opportunity to meet young Americans and to learn how they live.
America is the most progressive and
modern country I have ever seen. The dif-ference between America and Argentina
lies in the hurried pace of life and in the
daily schedule. Even though I had had ten
years of dialect English, the language was
hard to get used to; I was never taught about American slang.
American social life is unlike that in
Argentina. In my country we dance more calmly, and girls never dance together.
In Argentina when a girl dates a boy she
stays with him all the time and doesn't talk to other boys. Here you have a bet-
ter opportunity to meet people. As for American food—sweets drive me
crazy and gum is not nearly as popular in my country as here. But I can not say that the food in either country is better, just
different. Schools are also different. In Argentina
the buildings are older, less crowded, and rooms are individually heated. Students
stay in one room, teachers change classes. Friendship between teachers and their
pupils was new to me. Teachers are
friendly and there still is respect. I hope
to be a teacher and would like to bring the American teacher-student relationship
back to Argentina with me. "I liked America and I appreciated very
much all people here because they made
me feel as happy as I've never been
before."

LOOK OUT, WORLD!
+, rS:
COME!
Who Am I? Where Am I Going? What Shall I Become?
Photographer who makes an ugly scene as pretty as a picture? Accountant who is hired by a successful person to explain how he did it? Teacher who vowed she would starve before teaching and who has been doing both
since?
College student who gets up at five every day all summer to go clamming, but can't make an eight o'clock class all winter?
Has-been who lives on the reputation of his reputation? Opportunist who has learned that it is better to be educated than have to go to work?
Golfer who yells "fore", takes six, and puts down five? Undertaker who wishes all his friends the best of health? Educated man who finally discovers that there are some questions to which nobody has
the answers? Caps and gowns that you have worn at graduation are symbols that you have acquired full
liberty. Liberty, however, has been earned by preceding generations?. It is your obligation to see
that future generations may enjoy the same liberties that you have inherited. Another time, another place, a decade later, your class will rejoin. Reminisce you will, about
the good old days at Patchogue High. Since the beginning of our nation, our youth has endured the trials and tribulations that
have faced our country. I believe you, too, will take your place in society and con- tribute to its advancement as previous graduates have done.
Society is a daring adventure. Contribute to it and you become part of an exciting, adven- turesome life. If you ignore the world you are entering, it will offer you nothing in
return. 1 American writer, William Faulkner, wrote, "Don't bother just to be better than your
contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself." 9teen hundred and sixty-seven is the year in which you, as a member of this graduating
class, will make decisions that will affect your destiny.
6 years from now what will you be? 7ty years from now, on your rocking chair, sit back and ask, "What have I contributed to
my society?"
