he jacket that started it all. After a life-threatening experience with hypothermia in 1935, Eddie returned

to Seattle determined to create a better coat. So he cre-ated his first down jacket, the “Blizzard Proof.” A year later, he changed the name to “Skyliner.” It became the first down jacket patented in America.

By the 1940s, he was America’s leading manufacturer of down outerwear. In 1944, he patented his women’s Swiss Model Ski Jacket (D138,336) and offered it the following year in the first edition of his catalog.
