The Kansas City Smoke will also be back on the men’s side to defend their title. The Deloitte Elite Club Competition annually invites USATF-club teams to compete against one another for a $20,000 prize purse. The Mile adds a fun and competitive element to race weekend On May 6, 1954, Roger Bannister made history by becoming the first person to run under four minutes in the mile, clocking 3:59.4. While the feat has been accomplished many times over in the last six decades, the lore of the mile remains. To commemorate the iconic status and revival of the mile, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle is introducing The Mile to race weekend. The event will take place on Saturday, March 23 in Grant Park’s Butler Field. Stache and The Shannon Rovers to headline the Post-Race Party The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle Post-Race Party will be held at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park (Columbus Dr. and Congress Pkwy.) immediately following the race from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The Post-Race Party will feature Stache and the Shannon Rovers. Shamrock Shuffle runners 21 years or older will receive a drink ticket attached to their bib number that can be redeemed for one (1) Michelob ULTRA. This year’s race will welcome runners from across the Midwest, including more than 40 USATF running clubs competing in the 11th annual Deloitte Elite Club Competition.

Key moments in event history2018Defending champion Stephen Sambu sprinted his way into fi rst place, fi nishing in 23:10, becoming the fi rst person in event history to win four consecutive times. The women’s winner, Laura Thweatt, 29, of Boulder, Colo., fi nished in 26:02, propelling her and her Boulder Track Club teammates to victory of the 10th annual Deloitte Elite Club Competition.

2015Four-time Bank of America Shamrock Shuffl e champion Stephen Sambu makes his Chicago debut. Sambu crossed the fi nish line in 23:03, the fastest Shamrock Shuffl e time since 2002 and the 12th fastest time in the event’s history. The women’s winner was Alexi Pappas who fi nished in 26:32.

2011Olympian Amy Yoder Begley and Canadian national record holder Simon Bairu lead a record breaking 32,427 runners across the fi nish line. Begley, a six-time U.S. national champion and a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team in the 10,000 meters, won in 26:50, the fastest women's time since 2006. Bairu, a two-time NCAA cross-country champion and three-time Big Ten cross-country champion at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, broke the fi nish line tape in 23:38.

2009The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffl e introduces the Elite Club Competition as a way to give top distance runners in the Midwest a unique opportunity to compete head to head. The inaugural competition welcomed 21 USA Track & Field (USATF)-member running clubs to the fast and fl at streets of downtown Chicago. Chicago’s own Fleet Feet/Nike racing team beat Iowa’s Runablaze for the women’s title, and the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project took down Racine’s Wisconsin Runner racing team for the men’s title.

2007In 2007, the fi eld grew to more than 30,000 runners. The men’s race saw Luke Watson from Madison, WI break the tape fi rst in 23:26. In the women’s race, Chicago’s very own, Tera Moody ran away from the fi eld winning comfortably in 27:09.

2005Among a fi eld of 22,500 runners, American runner Deena Kastor took advantage of ideal conditions and a fast course to set an American record 8K time of 24:36. The previous record, 25:02, was set by Lynn Jennings in 1991.

2004The 25th anniversary Bank of America Shamrock Shuffl e welcomed 22,382 registered runners and marked the birth of two new stars, American Brian Sell and Russian Tatyana Chulakh. Sell and Chulakh both achieved their fi rst majors victories at the Shamrock Shuffl e fi nishing 23:31 and 25:56, respectively. Local favorite Jenny Spangler, winner of the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 1996, fi nished in 4th place in 27:33.
