2016 International Society for Burn Injuries Congress
ISBI Presidential Welcome
As President of the ISBI, it gives me great pleasure to extend an invitation and welcome you to the 18th Congress of the International Society for Burn Injuries in Miami, Florida, 2016. ISBI will be providing updates on our ongoing efforts to develop educational programs and guidelines for burn care in low resource settings that will provide evidence-based recommendations on cost effective interventions. Together with international leaders in burn care, our Program Chair, Folke Sjöberg, MD, PhD, will present a program that reflects current problems and represents a collection of scientific, educational and practical information, with topics of interest for participants representing all members of the multi-disciplinary burn team.
In addition to the scientific program, the social program will provide an opportunity for you to experience Miami and the surrounding area and beaches. It will be a most opportune time for all of us to renew friendships and develop new partnerships with colleagues of similar interests that prove valuable in the future care of those with burn injuries. Please join us and participate in our efforts to truly have “One World, One Standard of Burn Care.” I look forward to seeing all of you in Miami.

International Society for Burn Injuries
The International Society for Burn
Injuries (ISBI) had its First
International Congress on Research
in Burns in Bethesda, MD, in
September 1960. It was considered
such a success by its participants
that a Second Congress was
scheduled in the city of Edinburgh,
Scotland in 1965. This Second
Congress generated increased
enthusiasm among the participants
for subsequent International
Congresses. The participants also
decided to establish a permanent
organization. Mr. A.B. Wallace
facilitated the creation of the ISBI
and became the Secretary General.
