TRINITY COLLEGE.

--o--

This College has no medical, law, divinity, or other professional school or department connected with it; but is intended to give a Liberal Education, adapted to fit young men to enter most advantageously upon the study of the Learned Professions after graduation. By a Liberal Education, is meant a non-professional education conducted without reference to any future particular profession, calling, or special pursuit on the part of the student in question, and designed not to make men specially clergymen, lawyers, physicians, soldiers, merchants, or engineers, but so to train and educate the mental faculti• s as to put them into the moijt efficient condition, and to qualify a stuJent to enter with success upon the study of any of the professions, or upon any other pursuit in life. Its course of study is similar to that pursued at Harvard, Yale, and other leading Colleges, but somewhat more conformed to that of Oxford and Cambridge.

Those students however who wish to obtain simply the degree of Bachelor of Science can do so by taking the whole of the regular course except the Greek, and in addition certain prescribed scientific studies. Special students are also sometimes received, who are allowed to pursue their studies without referenee to any degree.

EXPENSES.

The annual expenses, exclusive of clothing and books, are from $250-to $450.

SCHOLARSHIPS.

There are numerous Scholarships that secure the remission of tuition; others the remission of all College charges; others which yield a pecuniary income varying from $60 to $300. The Society for the Increase of the Ministry offers Scholarships yielding from $200 to $300. The Church Scholarship Society makes loans, without interest, of $106 per annum. The doors of the College are shut against no deserving student for the want of means.

EXAMINATIONS FOR ADMISSION.

These take place on MONDAY and TUESDAY, JUNE 26 and 27, 1876, also on TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 and 13.

CO:ItiMENCEMENT IS TIIURSDAY, JUNE 29, 1876. THE NEW BUILDINGS.

These buildinsr~ will be erected from plans prepared by Mr. W. Burges, the well-known English architect. Thay are to be arranged upon the general plan of three courts, of which the central court will be double the size of the others, and have an extreme inside length of 628 feet. All the courts will for the present remain open on the east side; the western and northern sides of the great court, are the portions that will be erected first. For these buildings the Trustees at a recent meeting have appropriated $300.000. They will be finished and ready for occupancy in 1877.

CATALOGUES.

Catalogues and Examination Papers may be had on application to the Secretary of the faculty, Rev. Prof. Hart. For Scholarships and general information, application should be made to the President, 'rhomas Ruggles Pynchon, D. D.

EDITORIAL. --0--

As we are caUed upon to take the editorial chair, we cannot refrain from offering a,few apologetics] remark~. In getting out this number of the IvY, we intend to make several important changes in outward appearance, and also in the internal arrangement.

It has always been the custom to have a green cover with gilt letters MJd decoration. We must say that this we have never liked, and t l,at it is our intention to chan~re it, whether for better or worse E-ach of our renders will judge for him~elf

The inward appt>arance will be altered slightly in t"pography, but chi efly in arrangement. Class Criticisms have seemed always to us to b tl useless piece$ of labor, breeding naught but ill feeling. We therefore leave them out. Lastly, it is our intention to make the IvY as complete a reference book as possible on all matters connected with the col' e-g-e.

W ith these two objects in view, we sl1all present our readers with a book which we hope will please the minority if not the majority.

VALEDICTORY. --o--

Shout yA editors I Howl in your wild hilarity! Ring out with your mad huzzas, for at last, after months of trial and tribulation, the IVY is fini~hed . Ab, who but a former editor can imagine the satisfaction with which these words are uttered! Look at our thin and emaciated forms; look at our wan and careworn features, our dazed and troubled eyes, and then can ye a~k. are we ~lad our work is completed? But to our purpose. •

Another year has run its course since the IvY of '76 was first presented to our eager eyes; a year full of life and growth and important events in 'he history of our dear old Alma Mater. Gradu,;]ly she is ra ising her head and asserting lrer right to a place among the foremost in the ranks of Amer ican Colleges. The long talked of new buildings are now fairly under way, and we v~nture to assert thut the time is not far distant when Old Trinity will he pointed to as the possessor of one of the finest speci· mens of architecture in the land.

In regard to athletic sports, if we h&ve not advanced much, we have, at least, not fallen bthind our former good record, and, although we may not be rel)resented in the int ercollegiate contP.sts as txttnsively as some of the larger institutions, an active in rere•t is still maintained by our cnll <>J!e, the re~ults of which will be shown, we trust, in future vic· tori~~ - Our base-ball prospects were never better than to-day, and our boat cra w is mere!;· holding back, owing to a more serious run of ill-luck \han usual.

But amid all this growth and prosperity, the past year bas not been unmi xed with sorrow, for

"Death has been silently moving Among the ranks of our band,"

and the soul of one dear and beloved companion bas been called to its eternal home. This is no place for, nor does the character of Harry Cameron want for any eulogy, but his memory will ever reli\nin fresh &lid green in the hearts of all who knew him.

And now yo u, men of '76, who for three short, happy years have been 10 intimately connected with us, and who are now so rapidly nearing the ~rtnication of your college course, to you, in behalf of '77, we bid a

earty God-speed. And to the college in general, to whom we look for tupport iu our endeavors, hoping that you will be lenient in your criti·

appreciative of our efforts, and liberal in your patronage, we bid you and a]]

FAREWELL.

Too much cannot be said as to their SUPERIORITY over the ordinary glasses worn.
