Italian Pilot 112 context • Since 2010 has been implemented a new PSAP1 Call Centre able to

manage all the Call Taking & Dispatching activities for the EU-112 calls in the Varese area.

• The eCall solution is based on two components

• Telematic Control Unit providing – GPS Functionality – Cellular Network connectivity – Integration with vehicle network – Backup Battery

• Emergency Media Unit

– Microphone – Speaker – eCALL Button – BreakDown Call Button (Optional)

• The pilot will test two services that are not part of the eCall chain, but that are strictly correlated with it

• bCall (Breakdown call)

• Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI)

• Advanced breakdown service that will permit to handle geo-referenced breakdown calls

• Based on a commercial service provider

• Call Centre operated by ACI

• Sending of a localized call by hitting a separated button (bCall service)

• Answer or call-back by the service provider through a voice call (hands-free concept)

• Priority to eCall

• This service will be offered as a value added service to the ACI members invited to participate to the tests

• During tests, traffic information data are generated by each eCall received by the PSAP and are sent to a simulated RTTI Center

• Shortening the time chain from the event occurrence to the providing of information to the road users will help avoid congestion related to the accident

• The use of an open format (XML) for the event data will permit to broadcast such information to various RTTIs, that will use it based on their territorial scope

• HeERO two: 2013 – 2015

• 2015: eCall for personal cars mandatory in the whole EU.

• 2012 – Varese centralized model will be extended to the whole province (passing from 1.000.000 to 3.000.000 potential users served

• 2013 – Centralized model will be extended to the whole Lombardia region, with 9.000.000 inhabitant.

• Beside Varese, other two 1° level PSAP will be created, Milano and Brescia.

• The 3 PSAPs will be stongly interconnected. • Each PSAP will be a backup resource for the others. • eCall upgrade will benefit of the HeERO

experience.

A look ahead

• Organizational and operational change for the PSAPs passing form phase 1 to phase 2.

• The “VPN Emergenze” will realize a network integration and data exchange for all the emergency agencies.

• More regions will approach the Lombardia model in the next three years.

• EGNOS will be enabled in MM T-Box.
