We ran a very successful Holiday Programme over the last few weeks as the beautiful photos indicate in the next few pages. I would like to especially thank Camila, our co-ordinator for Holiday Care and all our dedicated staff that worked over this period and showed their excellence to our school and children. We are looking forward to a very exciting term with the children and are already busy working on our provocations and motivational letters that will be sent to the families next week. We ran a very successful Holiday Programme over the last few weeks as the beautiful photos indicate in the next few pages. We are looking forward to a very exciting term with the children and are already busy working on o u r p r o v o c a t i o n s a n d motivational letters that will be sent to the families next week.

The 3 weeks of Holiday Care was a fun and lively atmosphere full of fantasy. The children engaged in a variety of activities like crafts, cooking, movie day and arts. Our holiday theme of “A wonderful world...” has bought to school the visit of some very important people such as Peter Pan, Goldilocks and Alice who filled our mornings with stories, songs and really fun games.

On movie day some of our little ones enjoyed the big screen projected on the Nest wall. For most of our children it was the very first time watching a movie in the big screen not to mention eating up a lot of yummy popcorn!  

In the second week of the holidays, the children explored Goldilocks story. They enjoyed cooking up Bear’s delicious porridge showing off their ability to prepare food and  practicing their hygiene skills with hand washing.

We had the opportunity to express ourselves with dancing, singing, movement and games with Jo from Ukubebe. She helped us to e x p l o r e t h e s o n g ‘ W h a t a Wonderful World” through the book written by George David Weiss and all the elements in this music.

Craft day was a fun and messy experience where we did some collage with different materials such as feathers, wooden sticks, shinny paper and beautiful little paper butterflies.

This Holiday Care we celebrated Lola’s, Idris’s and Elle’s second birthday. They were all excited to wear the special birthday hat and to blow out their little candles. Happy Birthday!!!

And when we thought it couldn’t get better, a gigantic jumping castle was set up in the playground and our l i t t le ones en joyed jumping, bouncing and climbing up and down non stop.

State of origin decider game was on and we took the opportunity to pick our colour (blue or maroon) and have some fun by painting our faces and kicking the balls all a round, Nest s ty le ! We a l so cheered up for our teams waving our State of Origin flag and singing our teams name!

And to celebrate the end of 3 amazing and exciting weeks, we threw a party with dress ups where children had the opportunity to choose their favourite character and have some FUN!!!

Stage 1 Wonderful Winter Holiday! By Polina Rodov, Karla Cabezs and Michele Santos

What a magnificent way to spend cold winter days than in the warmth of our cosy classroom. We were warm and comfortable in our room and en joyed many fun and interactive activities.

The art and craft corner was such a delight for the children to engage in and enjoy. We participated in a variety of creative collage, balloon painting, group canvases and creative arts outdoors.

We were fortunate to have some special visitors from their magical worlds share with us the magic from Alice the Wonderland, Peter Pan and Goldilocks. The children were enchanted by the characters and enjoyed the fun filled games, songs and stories that were introduced to them.

More excitement occurred during activities such as baking yummy star cookies, the visit from Ukebebe entertainment, bouncing fun on the jumping castle, movie day on the big screen, and of course the highlight was Kanga Squads multi sports program.

Overall, we were so lucky to enjoy such a fantastic vacation period and were able to have a relaxing time before the beginning of a busy new term.

During holiday care each week we were visited by a fairy tale character. Week one was Peter Pan, week two we had Goldilocks and on week three Alice from Alice in Wonderland came to visit. The children were enthralled with these new stories and with the visitors to school. We also relished the opportunity to get to the big playground and use the giant slippery dip and to take out the bicycles.

During week one we had a chance to visit the kitchen where we had great fun making our star shaped cookies, which we took home to enjoy. Week two saw us visited by Ukubebe where we explored “A wonderful world” through music.

We also had great fun bouncing on the big jumping castle, which came to visit. In week three we had great fun celebrating our respective teams for State of Origin, which we followed later with a great session with Kanga Squads.

We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays whether you were with us or if you had the opportunity to take some time off. We look forward to an exciting new term with all our families and friends.

R Stage 3 Peter Pan… By Anita Martin, Cheryl Freeman, Neda Kazemikhoo, Christina Mandalidis and Hannah McCooey

The Holiday Care program has allowed the Stage Three children the freedom of exploration and time to engross themselves in the fantasy world.

By far, the Stage Three children’s favourite fantasy story was of Peter Pan. They were first introduced to the story of Peter Pan in the morning when Max McLellan brought in his book from home. The children listened with enthusiasm to each aspect of the book, which took half an hour to read. The world of Never land truly captured their imaginations. It was amazing then that Peter Pan visited us at Reddam and told us of all his stories involving, pirates, tick toc croc, Indians, mermaids, Captain Hook and the lost boys.

During week two, the jumping castle arrived! So much bouncy fun and laughter. The jumping castle resembled a blown up obstacle course, weaving through pillars, leaping over hurdles, climbing up the ladders and sliding down the slippery dips at the end. What a tiring day!

In week three we prepared for our fabulous State Of Origin day. Every child was invited to come dressed in blue or red/maroon, in support of their team. The Stage Three also baked this week and created some amazing State of Origin chocolate cakes. They measured out the ingredients, cracked the eggs and got to mix it all together with the electric mixer. When it came time to ice the cakes, the children opted to have one red cake and blue cake. Finally the day had arrived and the children were welcomed by red and blue streamers, balloons and banners. They got to make their own flags and get their faces painted.

Coach Malcolm came and taught the children the rules of football and the skills they needed, to kick, pass and chase, as well as getting to play their own game of rugby league. The children were shown a snippet from last years State of Origin game and their chants could be heard from all around the school “NEW SOUTH WALES! NEW SOUTH WALES!”

Stage 4 Yoga By Kristina Rocchi, Jane Pledger, Deanne Jacobs, Debbie Zerbst,, Delphine Leuculeur and Kirsty

Welcome back to all our lovely Stage 4 families. If you managed to take a break we hope you feel rested and made lots of memories over the break. For the lucky children that got to take a break from the normal routine and spend the holiday with us, here is a sneak peek and some of the wonderful experiences we got to share.

Wow what a busy 3 weeks, the staff were very busy making sure the children had a magical time d e l v i n g b e e n i n t o t h e i r imaginations. We had visits from the real Peter Pan “ he’s a cool dude” said Joshua. Alice popped by and helped us turn our school into a wonderland.

Many children said Kyla Yogies was their favourite experience. Kelly always manages to get our bodies into shapes we didn’t know were even possible. Kelly took us away on a Peter Pan adventure. Luke said “walking the plank and trying not to wobble into the crocodile sea was his funniest bit.” The jumping castle was up there with being one of the most popular days. We kept our fingers crossed all day hoping it would arrive early and our wish came true, a whole day!

R Mighty Mites Teamwork By Simon Joseph

The Stage 1’s: • Developed their gross and

fine motor skills as they learnt the act ions to “Twinkle, Twinkle” and “I’m a Little Teapot”

• Developed their ball skills and ability to follow instructions as they popped the Magic Balls out of the tub, chased them, caught them and then threw them back into the tub in a fun game of “Popcorn”.

• Pulled out a carrot from the Magic Bag; this led us into a discussion about carrots, their health benefits and how veggies help to keep Mighty Mites body healthy and strong!

• Were introduced to SkelyMite the skeleton as they prepare to learn about the main bones in the body in Term 3.

The Stage 3’s: • Warmed up their muscles with

a game of Musical Bean Bags!

• Spoke about the different activities that fall under the term “Athletics” and learnt about their calf muscles which are one of the main m u s c l e g r o u p s u s e d i n Athletics

• Developed their sprinting, hurdling and shot put skills w i t h a g e - a p p r o p r i a t e equipment and fun games!

Stage 2:

•The sess ion started with the teacher in role as a fairy with a broken wing, reading out a poem she had written. She asked the children if they could help her find the way to the castle to see the King and Queen as they have magical powers that can fix the wing 

•The ch i ldren d i scussed and experimented how fairies move and sprinkle magic.

•The children worked together to help the fairy cross the many obstacles to the castle including the Rainbow river the rickety bridge and the stepping stones 

•On the way to the castle they heard giant footprints and as a group contemplated what they might do. Do they face up to the Giant or hide?

•Danced to 'Fairy Dancing Girl' using the pom poms and the whole body to show that they were fairies

•Two children volunteered to be the King and the Queen, wearing the crowns to get them into character and standing above the other fairies showing that they had more authority.

•The Fairy (very upset) told the King and Queen her problem and they gave each fairy a flower to cheer them up. They then gave each fairy (child) a playing card and said that they must look at the number on the card and spin around/jump that many times and use the magic dust to fix the wing.

•They each developed the drama and used their imagination whilst doing the above actions and hey presto the wing was fixed.  Some children even wanted to hot seat the fairy!
