In 1798 John Fairburn published a set of fifty-two cards, about 60 x 90 mm., with maps of the English and Welsh counties engraved by Robert Rowe after John Cary (see 1789). !e game involved identifying each county’s adjacent counties. !e county towns have the mileage to London engraved adjacent to their names.

In the same year there was a second state with additions to the canals and roads, and new figures indicating adjacent counties (see Lincolnshire above). !e maps are also known in this state but on paper only. Robert Rowe later engraved another set of cards with very similar maps for Joseph Allen (see 1811) and only a handful of examples of both of these have survived.
