Parkwood Green’s value for Term 4: CARING

With the support of School Focused Youth Services and Djerriwarrh

Community and Education Services, 12 Parkwood Green students

were given an opportunity to participate in the MAT Program

throughout terms 3 & 4.

The MAT Program combines the principles of mental wellbeing and

emotional regulation with those of therapeutic martial art training

techniques, games, metaphors and stories. It engages and empowers

young people to learn life skills and to better manage the challenges

in their lives.

Here’s what some students had to say: “I think MAT is fun because it

helps with relaxing and keeping ourselves calm. It’s like Smiling Mind,

but more fun”, “we got special water bottles and when I look at my

bottle it makes me remember our code: Be Strong, Be Calm, Be Kind,

Try Hard” and ‘It was challenging when we played the rock game,

but I learned strategies to not let things bother me.”

Many thanks to Evan for being a fabulous facilitator, and to all

students for their commitment.

Hi all,

The term is passing far too fast for me. It seems like only

yesterday we were returning from the Term 3 holidays!

This is week 6! We are currently working on our classes

for 2020. Parents should have already completed the

yellow information slips and teachers are using this

information along with what they know about your

child/ren to place them where we think they will have

the best chance of success next year. We have also

completed the first Foundation orientation session

which went very well. As in the past your child’s new

class will be shared with you on December 13th. We

think that this year having the discussion at home about

chosen friendships has assisted our process. We use a

computer package to form our classes. The package

allows us to enter particular data about groupings,

special needs, learning needs and other important

information you may have shared with us. Of course all

classes are monitored by the assistant Principals and

myself through 2020.

REPORTING

Your teachers are working on the reporting process as I

write. Please remember that the samples of your child’s

learning as evidence to their Individual Education Plan

(IEP) goals, are all behind the Learning task heading on

COMPASS. The goals are updated to reflect their

learning achievements and show much more than a

generic statement to which you have no evidence. I

do urge you to make the time to have the conversation

with your child about their learning. They can show you

on their device. Let your child be proud of their learn-

ing by speaking about it. It stretches their brain and

their thinking! There will be an opportunity for you to

speak to the teacher about your child’s achievement

this semester during the last week of our school year.

VOLUNTEERS/HELPERS MORNING TEA

On Friday December 6th we will be holding a Morning

Tea for all of our hard working parents as a thankyou for

all of the hard work they have put in through 2019.

Please accept this as your invitation to attend and as a

thanks for your commitment and help in the Kitchen,

classrooms, Specialist areas and other areas that

parents assist with all the time. It is very pleasing for me

to see an increase in parents in our school.

Parent helpers are the backbone of any good and

progressing school. See you on the 6th of December at

11 o’clock in the Learning Centre.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT:

December 18th is the date and we will be in the

courtyard this year (weather permitting). The idea this

year is that there will be a timetable shared so that

children know what time their child is singing and they

will be able to come to the courtyard to see them. This

will rely on parents moving away form the stage after

their child’s performance to allow other parents to see

their children. Families will be able to sit in surrounding

areas and still listen to the singing as they have in the

past. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a wonderful

evening! This year we have a couple of surprises in

addition to the wonderful whole year level singing!

Please remember this is a community event and being

involved is the aim. Come along and bring your own

picnic dinner to have in the courtyard or on the

basketball court. This year as in the past, we will be

selling our candles for a charity to illustrate giving to

others. I will again be looking forward to welcoming you

to this wonderful community night.

Kind regards,

David Allibon

FUN FIESTA

Planning for the Fun Fiesta is now in full swing with 13th

March 2020 promising to be an entertaining and fun

event for our entire school community. Rumour has it

there may just be a dunking machine… wonder which

teachers we will see in there?!

holding a stall to get in touch. Forms for stall holders

can be found in the office or downloaded from

Compass.

REGIONAL VOLLEYBALL

Parkwood Green volleyball team worked so hard and

made it to regionals. We played at Eagle Stadium in

Werribee. When we got to the stadium, it was huge!

We were so excited and proud to be playing!

Unfortunately we lost our first game in 3 sets, which was

really close! In our second game we thought we were

going to win the first set because we were up 10-1, but

the other team came back and ended up beating us

13-20. We also lost the second set 17-20. In our final

game, we played a team that barely used their hands.

They kept on heading and kicking the ball (which is

actually allowed). They won the first set and we won

the second. In the last set the scores was 13-14. It was

so close! Absimad served and won the point. Which

meant that we won the game! We were so happy and

proud to win at least one game at a regional level!

Thanks to all of the parents that drove us and came to

support us. Also, thankyou to Lenson’s mum Joyce and

Miss White for coaching us.

BASKETBALL FINALS

Last week our Boys and Girls Basketball teams competed

in two big days of competition.

On Wednesday 6th November they competed in the SSV

Regional Finals at Altona Basketball Stadium. Both teams

played in three matches, unfortunately neither team

came away with a win.

On Thursday 7th November they competed in the Senior

All Stars Regional Finals at Mill Park Basketball Stadium.

The Boys team drew their first game, won their second

and third games and lost their last game. The Girls team

won their first and third games and lost their second and

last game. Unfortunately neither side made it through to

the finals.

Congratulations to both teams on making it through to

the Regional Finals, it was a huge accomplishment.

Thank you again to our coaches Josh and Alana.

We are all extremely proud of the effort, teamwork,

sportsmanship and commitment demonstrated by all

players over the two days.
