INTRODUCTORY RITES

Prelude

Introit

Psalm 37: Fret not yourself because of the wicked, be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb.

Psalm 33: Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Praise the Lord with the lyre, make melody to the Lord with the harp...

Psalms for Organ Emma Lou Diemer (b.1927)

Ecce Deus adiuvat me, * et Dominus susceptor est animae meae: averte mala inimicis meis, in veritate tua disperde illos protector meus Domine.

Deus in nomine tuo salvum me fac:

et in virtute tua iudica me.

Behold, God is my helper and the Lord is the upholder of my soul; turn back all the evil against my enemies, destroy them in your fidelity,

O Lord, the Protector of my life.

Save me, O God, by your name, and render justice unto me in your strength. -Ps 53:6, 7 and 3

LITURGY OF THE WORD

There is no god besides you who have the care of all, that you need show you have not unjustly condemned. For your might is the source of justice; your mastery over all things makes you lenient to all. For you show your might when the perfection of your power is disbelieved; and in those who know you, you rebuke temerity. But though you are master of might, you judge with clemency, and with much lenience you govern us; for power, whenever you will, attends you. And you taught your people, by these deeds, that those who are just must be kind; and you gave your children good ground for hope that you would permit repentance for their sins.

Brothers and sisters:The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but

the Spirit himself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will.

The Gospel Acclamation is repeated after the Gospel.

Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying: “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. The slaves of the householder came to him and said, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?’ He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”

Homily

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerGreeting of Peace

Breaking of the Bread

Invitation to Spiritual Communion Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the

world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.Assembly: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Spiritual Communion My Jesus,I believe that you are truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.I love You above all things and I desire to possess You within my soul.Since I am unable at this moment to receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as being already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

-Saint Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787)

Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) described Spiritual Communion as an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly

embrace him at a time or in circumstances when we cannot receive him in Sacramental Communion.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve,

to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning, and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us;

and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
