kids day for kids, by kids, mostly exploreLI .com/kidsday BY WILL PARK Kidsday Reporter On June 1, 2012, I went to my first Mets game at Citi Field. I have always been a Mets fan. I remember the day like it was yesterday, because it turned out to be the first no-hitter in Mets history. My dad and I were driving to the Mets game and when we turned off the highway, we saw Citi Field from a distance. The stadium was humongous! It had more than 27,000 people inside for this game. I remember the huge hot dog I ate at the concession stand. It was so good that when I finished it, I had to have another one. When we got back to our seats, we realized the score was 8-0, Mets winning, and no hits for the Cardinals. Those in- nings went by so fast. In the last inning, after the first two outs, David Freese came to bat. Mets pitcher Johan Santana worked the count to 3 balls and 2 strikes. Santana’s last pitch was an awesome change-up that struck Freese out — the first no-hitter in Mets history. Everyone jumped out of their seats, and the team stormed the field. Seeing this game was better than I ever imagined. I recommend everyone go to Citi Field and see the Mets play. BY JULIA CAPPELMANN AND BRODY WERNER Kidsday Reporters The GameTruck recently pulled up in front of our school, to the excite- ment of the 26 students in our fourth- grade class. We were able to experi- ence two hours of awesome video- game playing. The mobile game truck has seating for up to 20 kids. Inside the truck there were five flat screens that stu- dents played games on. Outside the truck were two more large flat screens that enabled eight more kids to play. On the truck, there were more than 150 games to play. Some of the favorites were Madden 13 and FIFA Soccer 13. The most popu- lar game among the girls was Just Dance 4. Many of the boys enjoyed playing Mario Brothers. The truck has plenty of room and is so clean. But it is not just playing games. The truck has lots of helpers who can lead you in dance contests and other fun activities. Parents are welcome to watch, but it is all for us! If you don’t like one type of game, you can move down the truck to another. If you feel like singing, get outside and do some karaoke. This is great for birthdays, gradua- tions and other fun parties. The game trailer is pulled to the locations by a really cool black and green pickup truck. It is available for private parties at people’s homes and businesses. As a special surprise, they gave us GameTruck T-shirts before they left! Our whole class enjoyed this day.
