The Purposes of Marriage in Christianity
The bible states´a man will leave his parents and unite with his wife, and the two will become one`
1. So that the couple can have a lifelong relationship of love and faithfulness
2. So that a couple can support and comfort each other
3. For the Procreation of children
4. For the bringing up of a Christian Family

Christians believe that marriage is a gift from God, one that should not be taken for granted. It is the right atmosphere to engage in sexual relations and to build a family life. Getting married in a church, in front of God, is very important.

Common features of a Christian Wedding
• Beginning the service: the priest welcomes the congregation and explains the Christian purpose of Marriage.
• Vows: The couple then make their vows to one another and to God that they will love, comfort, honour and protect their partner as long as they both shall live.
• Rings: The couple exchange rings symbolising never-ending love.
• Proclamation: the priest tells the couple that they are now husband and wife “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Whom God has joined together let no man separate”.
• Prayers: prayers are said for the couple. They may include a prayer for the gift of children
• Bible Readings and sermon: there will be some readings from the Bible and the minister gives a sermon.
• Signing of the register: the bride and groom, along with two witnesses, sign the register, which is a legal requirement.

Average cost of wedding 'tops £15,000'
• The average cost of a wedding has now reached an enormous £15,764, over half the national average salary.
• The most expensive parts of the occasion are the honeymoon, costing on average £2,828, and the catering, at an impressive £2,447.
• The average wedding dress, plus trimmings including shoes, veil, jewelry and headdress, comes to £1,304, while the groom's outfit works out at a relative bargain at £197.
• Photography and a professional video comes to a further £1,259 on average, while the total cost of flowers reaches £481
