● Goals
– Gain experience in exercise in lateral thinking and problem solving
● Procedure
– 9 straws laid out as shown – Move one straw but the sum must still read correctly
Straws
● Goals – Highlighting the importance of effective
communication among participants
● Procedure – Resources: Pen and paper
– Teams of 2 people, sitting back to back
– One person describing the picture, the other person
will follow the drawing
– Note: Can outright say what the drawing is, have to use descriptive shapes
Blind Drawing
● Goals – Gain experience in exercise in lateral thinking
● Procedure
– How many squares are located inside the heavy lined square?
How Many Squares?
● Goals
– Demonstrate the effect of synergy – Look at a problem solving process
● Procedure
– Break the circle in 14 pieces by placing the straws inside the circle
– Do not break or split the straws
Sticks
● Goals
– Encourage communication among participants
– Look at a problem solving process
● Procedure
– The court will have 15 excavators lying on it
– Divide the court into 5 sections with each section containing 3 excavators
– You are only allowed to use 3 straight lines to divide the court

• Plan: 1 unit in coal pit. Actual: 2 units (5 and 11)
• EX12 mining down to 180rl to uncover cast 4
• EX11 dropcut from south, opening new access for EX12
• EX20 assisting with EX11 waste, hauling north. • Open drilling bench behind EX12

• EX12 takes 5m cut, hauling north. Roll over face for dill

• EX11 mines dropcut to 215rl from south

Key Risks to 16wk Plan
Mine Plan
● Mining
– Tight digging areas, numerous dropcuts, and 2 diggers uncovering coal may reduce rates .
– Interactions between drilling and excavating – very tight schedule
– EX12 on critical path for at-risk November coal.
● Drill performance
– Drilling at full capacity through the end of the year. Any delay in drilling will directly affect coal uncovery.
● Trucking
– All excavators (including EX20) are planned to mine at full rate.
– Trucking and haul distances will become critical
● Operational
– Personnel issues may cause delays for operating machines
– High pressure on Maintenance to keep equipment running
