GENTLENESS
Over the past weeks, in our country we have been dealing with
the reality of violence and hate in our society. We have seen the
culture of death manifested in El Paso, in Dayton, and in too
many other places. This situation is the antithesis of the
Kingdom of God. I know that I feel practically powerless to
address such evil, except to call it for what it is and to renounce
it and all that accompanies it. It is what we promise to do in our
baptismal vows: "Do you reject Satan? I do. And all his works? I
do. And all his empty promises? I do."
Along with the rejection of the culture of death, I also must profess confidence in
a civilization of love founded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This profession is
the positive side of our baptismal promises. Last weekend in a very different
setting, I felt the transforming power of mercy, gentleness, and love. I was
involved in a gathering of the Entering Canaan program for women experiencing
hope and healing after abortion, which is itself another manifestation of the
culture of death. The peace and grace of God is so evident in these woman,
who have found mercy after years of fear, guilt, and shame. This gathering was
so gentle. It gave me hope.
Please resolve to embrace and build a civilization of love in your homes, in your
hearts, and everywhere you go. Do not return evil for evil. Let love triumph.
Faithfully,
Fr. Baker
THANK YOU
I would like to thank all of my Parish family and friends who have supported me
during this difficult time, even though it is a time of celebration of my husband,
Ray’s passing into eternal life. I would also like to thank the Bereavement
Committee for the wonderful meal following Ray’s Memorial Mass.

MINISTERIO HISPANO
HUMILDAD
nuestros votos bautismales: "¿Renuncias a Satanás? Sí renuncio. ¿Y todas
Me dio esperanza.
Fielmente,
el P. Baker

HAITI UPDATE: Daniel Tillias has long been a friend of St. Rose since 2004. Our Haiti Mission
team hired him to be our translator whenever traveling to Haiti. Over all these last 15 years we
knew of his work in the slum of the capital city called Cité Soleil. Remember last August? He
spoke at all Masses at St Rose. He had helped us map out a plan to teach the school children
how to raise food. He has been a great teacher for us!
Now, it is exciting to see CNN recognize him as a hero of our times. "Many people in Haiti refer to
Cité Soleil as the trash place where all the dumps are," Tillias said. "But ... I see these kids with
potential, with wings ... waiting to fly. Waiting to be the next citizen that will change things in Haiti."
And, he works hard to get a safe space in the neighborhood for young kids to be just children --
“not to see a dead body in the street, not to have to live with the constant shooting, not to have to
see things that a little child should not be seeing," Tillias said.
This Spring, CNN began the process again to find men and women throughout the world who are
true heroes. Daniel Tillias is one of those named the top ten Heroes for 2019!! You can see his
profile and the other 9 heroes on CNN Saturday evenings, International News. Check your server
for channel and time.
