Blame Canada! is making its way to a Toronto stage Monday (March 24) after an appearance on a Broadway stage at 54 BELOW in New York on March 17.
The musical concert will be held at Hugh’s Room, 261 Dundas St. W., beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Advance tickets cost $20, or $25 at the door.
The show features Sheridan College Mu-sic Theatre alumni and faculty, including Jenny Weisz, Joel Gomez, Chilina Kennedy, Dana Jean Phoenix and Jeff Madden.
It will also feature songs and mu-sic by established and emerging Canadian musical theatre writers,
including some with connections to Sheridan College, such as Jona-than Munro, Jim Betts, Neil Bar-
tram, Brian Hill, Nicky Phillips, Irene Sankoff, David Hein and Robert Gontier.
New musicalsThe concert is pro-
duced in partnership with The Canadian Music Theatre Project (CMTP), which helps develop new musicals by Canadian and in-ternational compos-ers, lyricists and book-writers. CMTP is the brainchild of Michael
Rubinoff, the Associate Dean at Sheridan College for Visual and Performing Arts.
The evening will also celebrate the launch of a like-minded organi-zation the Canadian Musical The-atre Writers Collective (CMTWC), which was founded by Landon Braverman and Joseph Trefler.
The new national organization is devoted to supporting and promot-ing the work of Canadian musical theatre writers both at home and abroad.
“Sheridan and the CMTP con-tinue to be the leaders in the devel-opment of new musical works in Canada,” said Rubinoff in a news release.
“Blame Canada! and our support of the CMTWC is another way to promote and celebrate our excep-tional talent and writers.”
