• Jeff Anderson (Mechanically Inclined author) uses “Invitations to Notice” as a warm-up activity at the beginning of writer’s workshop to help students learn to pay close attention to the conventions, style, and craft of writing.

• They can be used as an alternative to Daily Oral Language to facilitate connections between writer's craft and grammar instruction.

• These quick exercises involve a whole-group examination of a sentence(s) as a mentor text, focused practice, and discussion, all in just a few minutes.

• Read Chapters 11 and 12 in How Writers Work (RF, p. 84-99).

• Revise your draft so that it is in a “semi-publishable” form and ready to share with others.

• Bring evidence to show the use of different revision techniques (e.g., different draft copies) on your self-selected writing piece.
