16:00 – 17:30Mobile Industry 2.0: The Age ofDisintermediationHall 4, Auditorium 2

At a very fundamental level, disintermediation is thephenomenon whereby a certain market agent is sodisruptive that it makes one or several pieces of its valuechain obsolete. Mobile has been for decades an extremelypowerful disintermediation agent, completely redesigninghow adjacent industries are organised. But perhaps thetime has come for the mobile industry to face equallypowerful new entrants who can force it to reinvent itself,or face a slow march towards obsolescence otherwise.Has the mobile industry in a way become a victim of ownsuccess by enabling players who are now challenging itsmain business?

In a marketplace where dominant players in specificsegments (Google in search, Facebook in social, Apple insmartphones, Uber in instant taxi hire, etc) get the lion’sshare of profits, how can industry players, governmentsand all parts of this wide and complex ecosystem find asustainable way forward where one agent doesn’t needto vanish for the other to thrive? This session will take astrategic look at where our industry is and suggestsustainable ways forward.

16:00 – 17:30Ensuring User-Centred Privacy in aConnected WorldHall 4, Auditorium 3

The ubiquity of mobile devices, the internet, apps andservices is expanding users’ digital footprints on a massivescale. Today, data about devices and their users isgenerated and broadcast in real-time, often by default andwithout the user being aware or having choice. 14:00 – 15:005G RequirementsHall 4, Auditorium 4

5G has been discussed in earnest for well over a year, andyet there is still no solid identification of the requirements5G should meet and certainly no definition of theenabling technologies that will be used to meet them.Even with the industry continuing to invest massively inLTE, early movers in Japan and South Korea are amongstthose vying for 5G leadership, with the first commercialtrials anticipated between 2018 and 2020 to coincidewith major global sporting events. In this session, thespeakers will try to address the question ‘What is 5G?’,and perhaps more tellingly, also consider what isn’t. At atime when industry sustainability is also a concern, should 5G be driven solely by technical innovation, or arewe actually looking to the Next Generation to beeverything that already exists, but better implemented?

14:00 – 15:00The Explosion of ImagingHall 4, Auditorium 5

Digital photography is now a ubiquitous feature for mostsmartphone and tablet users. Applications and onlineplatforms are leveraging the different roles photos andimages can play in our lives with a set of innovative andcompelling user experiences which have transformed theway we communicate with each other and engage withthe world around us, driving an explosion in imaging thatwill see trillions of photos taken and shared online in thecoming year. How is this phenomenon driving thedevelopment and design of new devices, products andservices? How will innovations in imaging technologies beintegrated into future offerings? Finally, given thedifferent functions photos can serve, how are concernsover privacy and ownership being addressed by differentservice providers?

15:15 – 16:15Mobile Innovation 2: Investment forMarket ImpactHall 4, Auditorium 1

Investment is an essential part of bringing new productsand services to the market, whilst creating a businesscapable of longevity and real market impact.

Through presentations and case study examples thissession will navigate the investment landscape, supported by speakers from investment providers, banks,start-up accelerators and companies who have createdbreakthrough products in the mobile industry.

15:15 – 16:155G ServicesHall 4, Auditorium 4

Having sought to establish the requirements for 5G in theprevious session, here we will examine the new servicesthat will be enabled by this next-generation network. With its promise of a tenfold increase in datatransmission speeds compared to current 4G capabilities, much lower system latency and higher cell traffic density, services (and revenues) are vital to justify the investmentthat operators will need to make. But will 5G prove a hardsell to investors or consumers? Is it really about capacityor capability? With 212 billion connected devices forecastby 2020 (IDC), how do you size the market and howmany of these devices are dependent upon the advent of5G? The vision of a fully connected society is a goal thattranscends technology, since it is dependent upon allexisting and future connectivity enablers working inconcert. Is that achievable and, if so, in what timescale, and what will it be possible to do when ubiquitousbroadband is a reality?

15:15 – 16:15Defining the Future of The InternetHall 4, Auditorium 5

An open Internet allows start-up companies to reachscale and offer services at marginal costs to a globalaudience. It has been the most important driver oftechnological innovation in this century. Capping Internetaccess based on type of traffic may end up discouragingan open entrepreneurial environment where humancreativity, rather than technical or commercial limitations, defines the boundaries of innovation. On the other hand,it's misleading to suggest that broadband infrastructurewas not a big part of all innovation the world haswitnessed to date. Building this infrastructure costsenormous amounts of money, often covered by telcos aswell as cable companies and defining broadband asutilities may hinder future investment in faster networks. This session will bring industry leaders as well asregulators to the forefront of the net neutrality debate, offering our audience with a unique opportunity toengage in this industry-defining topic.

16:30 – 17:30Mobile GamificationHall 4, Auditorium 2

Defined by Gartner as ‘the use of game mechanics andexperience design to digitally engage and motivatepeople to achieve their goals’, gamification is a novel wayto influence the behaviour of customers and employeesalike. Despite the fact that Gartner’s ‘Hype Cycle forEmerging Technologies’ report recently mappedgamification in the ‘Trough of Disillusionment’, there islittle cause to be alarmed, with its huge potential for avariety of applications, many of which are greatlyenhanced by mobile connectivity. For examples, utilitycompanies globally are expected to spend $13.5 millionon gamification in 2014, rising to $65 million by 2016,according to IDC Energy Insights. Barcelona: A Magical City

There are few cities in Europe – oraround the world – that have anallure quite like Barcelona.Whether you’re interest lies inamazing architecture, sandyMediterranean beaches, danceand culture, historical significance, vibrant party scenes, orgastronomical delights, Barcelonahas something for you. You’lldefinitely want to soak up the citywhile you’re in town for MWC. Besure to schedule some timebefore or after the event toexperience the best of Catalonia!

Your Arrival

Most attendees enter the city viaBarcelona Airport, which islocated just ten minutes awayfrom Fira Gran Via and is servedby more than 110 airlines. Ofcourse, the city is also served bythe AVE high-speed train, whichconnects with the European Railnetwork via Madrid.

Getting Around

Public transport in Barcelona isconvenient, inexpensive, andreliable. Barcelona is a safe city.Nevertheless, while you are visitingwe suggest taking common-senseprecautions as you would whenvisiting any major city, includingcarrying only as much cash as youneed, keeping an eye on yourpersonal belongings, both insideand outside the Congress venue, and remaining vigilant in crowds, restaurants and on publictransportation. Watch out forpeople creating distractions anddiversions. Also, we stronglysuggest you remove your Congresspass when you leave the venue, soas not to advertise that you’recarrying the latest mobile devices.
