The Soroptimist Chapter of Artesia-Cerritos held its 18th Monte Carlo
fundraising event Feb. 26 in the Sierra Room at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. Theme for the event was “An Evening in Casablanca”, taking those in attendance back to the year 1942.
A life-size framed poster of Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart and a group of picture from the 1942 film “Casablan-ca” over looking the stage set the theme for an evening of fun and fine dining.

An estimated 500 seniors and parents attended the ABC school board meeting Mar. 1 to seek a continuance of the District’s Adult Education programs and the District’s Elementary music education programs.

The Cerritos City Council approved a proposal to reallo-cate federal grant funding for the installation of a photovol-taic system originally allotted to Cuesta Villas senior housing project to the City Corporate Yard.

Demolition of the above ground tanks at the former fuel storage site owned by the Air
Force started in December 2010 ws recently completed. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers oversaw the contracting and de-molition of the twelve large steel tanks and two smaller tanks. The Corps of Engineers notified
the surrounding residents and school prior to the start of de-molition activities. Water trucks were used to spray work areas to control dust and air monitoring
