When wrongly using the two wires of a twisted pair for different directions (TX and RX), the principle of balanced signals will NOT have its positive effect of elimination of common mode interfering signals.
In opposite, both signal (TX+RX) will interfere with each other, the more, the longer the cable length is. Signal quality will be degraded (bit errors).
Also alarm management is affected: In case one end of the cable is disconnected from the terminal, the alarm loss of signal would be expected. But due to induction from the TX to the RX wire, there might be an incoming signal detected. No alarm at all or for instance LOF or LOMF would be generated instead.

Common mode disturbances are eliminated by the balanced (= symmetric) signal structure. Due to the twisted pair cable mechanics any electromagnetic disturbance should have the same effect on both wires of a twisted pair, the TX A and TX B oor RX A and RX B. By the twisting of the wires it is made sure that one wire can not shield the other wire agains a certain direction.
The input stage (on the IFUA/AXCC) of the balances E1/T1 interface uses a differential amplifier design to filter out all common signal components between the A and B inputs. What remains is the pure PCM signal as it was sent from the far end E1/T1 transmitter.

Unbalanced signal are not so well protected against EMI. The interference level mainly depends on the Cable length and the quality of the screen (= shield).

Workaround:
1. Check that the connections have been made according to the installation document
2. Check the capacity of the connector. Opt-RF1 and Opt_RF3 support 4 cells, Opt-RF2 support 2 cells.

Easy way on site is to use torch to see if light can be seen in far end. But this is very coarse check!

Iub accuracy requirement
To meet the BTS Air interface accuracy requirement +/- 0.05 ppm (set by 3GPP), the Iub interface must meet the long-term accuracy of +/- 0.015 ppm.
This kind of accuracy is attained if the network master clock (PRC) fulfills the ITU-T recommendation G.811 and the synchronisation of the network is correct.
The maximum jitter/wander of the Iub interface is specified in the ITU-T recommendation G.823.
Another possibility is that the BTS master clock reference comes via the AXU reference clock interface. The Iub accuracy requirement above also applies for the AXU reference clock interface.

The following clocks are used:
TRCLK, transmission derived clock, 2,048 MHz, from Iub to the WSCA unit
BRCLK, baseband reference clock, 61.44 MHz from the WSCA unit via WCI module to the WAM, WSM and WTR units
REFCLK, synchronization clock output for the next BTS cabinet, 30.72 MHz
REFRCLK, synchronization clock input from the previous BTS cabinet, 30.72 MHz
SFCLK, system frame clock 100 Hz, from the unit front panel for testing purposes
TESTCLK, 10 MHz, from the front panel as measurement device reference
