action Player controls a character who must navigate a level, collecting objects, avoiding obstacles, and battling enemies.
adventure Player is assigned a role in an interactive story driven by exploration and puzzle-solving.
music A game in which the gameplay is almost entirely orientated around the player’s interactions with musical score or individual songs.
rpg A role-playing game in which player assumes a role and makes his/her own decisions. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules.
strategy Evolving from strategic board game principles, the players take turns to make their manoeuvres.
content descriptors are used
in conjunction with the age rating icons to indicate the
main reasons why a game is
given a particular age rating.
violence Game may contain some violence. In games rated 7 any violence can be non-realistic, whereas games rated 16 or 18 can have increasingly more realistic-looking violence.
fear This descriptor may appear on 7-rated games with pictures or sounds that can be frightening to young children or on 12-rated games with horrific sounds or horror effects.
bad language Game contains bad language, which may include mild swearing or offensive language in games rated 12, or blasphemy and sexual expletives in games rated 16 or 18.
sex Games depicting nudity or references to sexual behaviour. In games rate 12 this may include word or activities with obvious sexual innuendo.
drugs Game may encourage the use of tobacco or alcohol in games rated 16 or depict illegal drugs in 18-rated titles.
discrimination This descriptor can only appear on games rated 18 containing ethnic, religious, nationalistic or other stereotypes that could encourage hatred.
gambling Used for games rated 12, 16 or 18 that may encourage or teach gambling for money normally played in casinos, gambling halls, racetracks, etc.
